5 beeps on startup

Just received my new pc and on startup I’m getting five beeps from it. A cursory google suggests somethings wrong with the CPU but I have no idea where to start troubleshooting and then how to fix it.

Any advice on how to fix it would be appreciated :)

Hiya, is this a pcspecialist pc? Could you post your full specs from the order page?

Beep codes are also long / short, could you say what order they happen in?

So according to Gigabye it's a CPU error:

5 short beep :CPU error

That cooler is no way suitable for that processor, but it shouldn't stop it booting, but you don't want to use it under any strain with that cooler.

Have you removed all the packaging from the internals?

Check the CPU power cable, the 8pin in the top left of the motherboard, remove it and reinsert it.

Also check the cpu power cable outputs from the PSU and make sure they're properly inserted.

Lastly, check the cooler fan cable is properly inserted into number 3

How are you connecting your monitor to the PC? Displayport or HDMI cable? And which port are you connecting it to?

Make sure you're plugging the cable into the dedicated GPU ports and not the integrated graphics:

I have done that thank you. I’m not sure what this has to do with five beeps on boot or my cooler not being good enough tho.

When I did a bit of Googling on the 5 beeps, despite the documentation indicating it was a CPU error, some people reported it was linked to issues with GPU (faulty cable, monitor not on when booting, etc). So just wanted to rule that out. Does the system boot into windows after the 5 beeps?

Yeah, good spot, came across this Reddit thread saying as much, you certainly wouldn't think to check that with the beep code presented

Goes onto say it's a bug triggered by CSM being enabled causing the false beeps related to the RTX Graphics.

The workaround is to disable CSM in the BIOS.

This is really bad, this is basic failure on the part of Gigabyte, they do seem to have a lot more bugs than the Asus counterparts. The failure is not the false beep flag, but it's the fact they're reusing the 5 short beeps for a completely irrelevant issue to what it's supposed to be used for, that's an essential no no, makes troubleshooting extremely challenging. It's essentially the same error as the Asus boards, but at least those flag the GPU as the issue with the correct beep codes.
