That’s interesting you say about the AMD over Intel why do you have that opinion? From everything ive looked at points to intel for gaming only and AMD for multi tasking. I have a Mac also which I use for day to day stuff so it will only be gaming on this machine

Intel is generally used for 'pro gamers' as they do have the edge at 1% and 0.1% lows, however, if you are not a full-on competitive gamer earning you money from playing, I'd save the pennies and get the AMD, after all the next-gen consoles are using the same underlying tech as the Ryzen 3000 parts, and games will be designed with those mind down the line.

Don't get me wrong, Intel parts are still great parts, just cost/performance they fall well behind AMD atm in the desktop space. Gaming laptops are the other way as the AMD 4000 series parts don't have access to the super/gddr6 GPU's so stuck at RTX2060 at the moment.

Worth considering either way.

You would still be pushing 300+ FPS with the AMD anyway so it won't make any odds for you. I would personally be opting for the 3800X for the core of the build. It has you covered at peak frequency for gaming and any streaming or etc you want. It might only manage 390 FPS against Intels 399, but it's hardly much to worry about. Everywhere else the AMD is significantly better.

There's the upgrade path to consider, the security vulnerabilities (past and present), the insane temperature and power requirements of the intel and the price vs performance.

Wow okay that’s really got me thinking now. My order is already 6 days in but is in pre production I presume I can’t just make a change to AMD if I’ve already built with Intel? Would I cancel then re order?

Pre-production is fine. Just cancel the order then start again from the AMD configurator :)

I called PCS and because it’s through finance it gets a bit complicated so I will stick with the I7 unfortunately. But thanks for your input as per the rest of the build does it look alright?

Strix is a waste of cash on the motherboard and the GPU
You want a water cooler on that chip

Other than that, it looks fine.

I would be cancelling regardless of the finance situation though. Short term pain, long term gain.

I know what your saying but I don’t want another credit check etc. I have changed the cooler to H100i. And as for the gpu I went for Strix because A it was factory overclocked and B the warranty is longer and C I didn’t want the palit 2080 ti
Again I do agree with the motherboard which would you suggest?

I cancelled the order and changed to a AMD 3800x build. Just a question in relation to that the cpu voltage seems to hover around 1.35/1.4 does that sound normal it’s standard I haven’t changed anything on it. The temps are okay 55 under load.

I think they do run fairly high voltage as standard. If the temps are 55 under load you've got a beauty!

Voltage is directly related to temperature. Don't read into this too much but technically if the temps are OK, the voltage could be 2v and everything would be right as rain. It's temps that make everything unstable, not the voltage.
