Advice and recommendations for laptop computer would be much appreciated.

Hi, I used you guys for a gaming desktop and have been pleased with your service.

My son is starting a new job in June and is going to be all over the place on business.
I wanted to surprise him with a new laptop computer, trying to browse is quite
difficult for me, and I don't feel like I can make an informed decision. I would like
a little help if you have the time.

While he does not really game, he mostly plays around with Ableton. Which I believe takes
a fair bit of CPU.


The things I seek as a priority
-large clear display
-connectivity, at least 4x USB
-decent battery
-quality keyboard
-responsive and snappy

Budgets not so much of a problem if the product is quality, Is anybody able to please
assist me in finding a computer that would meet these needs?

I would pick the 17.3" Iconico as it have 4x USB ports , large and good display with 2K resolution (2560x1440) and very decent performance overall . It comes with a large 91WHR battery that will last for likely 4 hours plus , depending on end configuration.
With this laptop you have the option to choose either AMD or Intel as the supplier of CPU/systemboard . For enhanced performance in productivity I would choose AMD . Graphics is GeForce RTX 30-series , giving it solid 3D performance .

So for system memory I would start at 16 GB , but if the laptop will use memory intensive applications , I might recommend 32 GB . Add a fast NVMe SSD and you are good to go :)

You should perhaps know that these fora are a) not an official PCS support channel and b) are frequented almost exclusively by volunteers who don't work for PCS. We offer our help and advice in our own time and for free.
