Advice needed for specialist build please

Hi folks

I have a good friend who needs a new desktop. He will be running Microsoft office, Microsoft Visio and Video Editor, Adobe photoshop and ChatGPT. He will not need to upgrade any software (and therefore hardware) in the future.

Most salespeople, in my experience, will try and sell the newest, most powerfull etc. etc. Question...why buy a porsche to go to work when all you need (or can realistically afford!) is a Golf or Corolla?

He has all the peripherals - screen, keyboard, dvd drive and mouse. Would obviously need the essentials - WiFi, Operating system etc.

Anyone have any suggestions as to a budget build to run the above software please?

His son couldn't believe what I paid for my PCS budget gaming rig - he paid nearly £200 more for a similar preconfigured spec with a big name!

We need his max budget, it's not something we can dictate and won't change based on any advice, it's the max he's willing to spend.

It would be easier if they could create an account, having a 3rd party go between always leads to issues.

Can I rather ask what you would recommend as the cheapest build that will run the software he needs?

His budget is flexible in the sense that if he needs to use his credit card to do the job, he will do it but would like to avoid that. I will check with him tomorrow and post his reply.

I take your point about the account, but his son and I would like to present him with a PCS alternative to anything else he has been looking at

That's not really anything we'd recommend, it's not how computers work, they have a lifespan from component age, poor specs lead to a very frustrating experience and it's never ever something I would recommend cutting corners on.

With video editing you want a decent GPU, RTX 3060 I'd say as a minimum. Roughly £1500

You say he's not going to ever need to upgrade, but everything gets updated, chatgpt has very regular updates as does windows and Photoshop. They all start using new technologies as they released.

Unless you're saying this system isn't going to be connected to the internet?

Based on your comment about not going for the cheapest option and some internet checks on Processor. GPU and RAM (eg.can i3 -10100 run Adobe Photoshop etc.) we came up with the attached spec.

Seems quite a low price though.

Any thoughts?

It wouldn't work as a computer, it's not at all balanced.

You can't just put any specs together, that's not how it works, you have to balance the build from input to output.
