What about the 32 inch version of the Gigabyte one, is that too big?

Amazon have that one, £80 more than the 28inch

Yup - unfortunately no physical space. Would have snapped at that if I wasnt constrained (seems like a lot more options in 32 inch and over).

Is Jan usually when stocks are low every year ?

Not normally, this year is particularly bad moreso than normal. We'd usually have January sales on stuff, but there doesn't seem to be many this year, likely due to logistics issues worldwide, just no stock getting to the stores.
