Am I overspending on what I need for a video editing/streaming PC?

Hello all,
I am looking to build my first ever PC with the purpose of being powerful enough to first of all be able to record reactionary videos, and then later down the line have the potential to live stream with gaming content. I have done some research around the specs required and have built what I'm hoping is suitable, but I'd like to double check with smarter people that this build would be up for the task of what I'm after and to hopefully also receive advice on if I could do anything differently, whether that be use better parts or be more cost effective. I am admittedly torn in the sense I would like high quality but I also, even for a new adventure I'm very excited to try, am guilty of doing too much too soon.
I've listed my choices below. Please if you have any help for me I would be so appreciative! Thank you!

Hi there, welcome to the forum. You've definitely come to the right place as there are some very questionable choices in there.

What is the maximum budget you are looking to spend and would I be right in thinking you're looking for everything in the build, monitor and peripherals etc?
Is there a requirement to get everything from PCS, ie you're using the finance option, or can the likes of the monitor be purchased elsewhere?
Being a first PC I guess you are learning, do you have any particular software choices in mind to use.... or is this to be found out later?
Video editing and gaming being the 2 main performance considerations?

Right off the bat we wouldn't recommend Intel. Even if we were to go down that route, the 12th generation is 2 generations old, so we would never steer you to use older technology. I'm guessing that the information resources you were looking at were very out of date (at least 2 years).

We can recommend a build from scratch if you can give the above info. If you want to look into some of the thought processes and typical build structure the below has some good reading:

Below is another useful read on why we wouldn't suggest Intel for now.

Thank you so much Scott!

The maximum budget is around £3000 but that’s including everything in this quote above being PC build, a monitor, lighting, webcam etc. There is no need for everything to be from PCS, no, I would be shopping around but tried to put the needs into the quote to get an idea for a price range. I should have said that in the original post so my bad!

The only software I currently have in mind is adobe premiere pro, photoshop and google chrome. My last computer was a MacBook in 2016 so I’m very out my depth when it comes to windows software and obviously computing in general.

The information looking at it now is about 2/3 years late and I never even considered that an issue. I should have started here before but only saw the forum available here once I saved the quote. If possible a build from scratch would be fantastic and I’d very much appreciate that. I’ll have a read tomorrow morning of both of those two, thank you.

I really appreciate the reply! Massive thanks

Below is where I land for the build. This would be 1440p gaming, rather than 1080p, so you would get a far better experience. It's always worthwhile having 2 monitors but for the main gaming monitor I would get something like the following:

There are loads of options around the £250-£300 mark. The main things to look for are 144hz+, IPS and at least some form of HDR.

For the second monitor I would get a budget end 4k monitor, which will help massively with the editing. Real estate is a premium with the adobe suite.

The other odds and sods can be picked up at your leisure.

Can I ask why you proposed 2x 1TB drives rather than 1x 2TB?

Not critiquing, just education. Thanks. 🙂

I really appreciate this and the links you shared. I wish I had seen your link before on explaining your methodology in choosing parts because the information that gave compared to the outdated articles I was reading was night and day.

I have a lot of learning to do with this still. I have a question or two about usage of the SSD drives and whether I need to partition initially for the OS but I’ll try re-read the other page you have on storage drives in the morning to see if I can make sense of it first

Again, big thank you for the effort!

For this sort of build where it will have dual use, it's good to have the uses separated in the drives themselves. I would use the 500GB drive for the OS and main programs only, nothing else would be stored on this drive as it keeps it trim and running optimally. One of the 1TB drives would then be used for cache/live projects and fast storage. The second drive would be purely for games.

Having them physically separate allows for those channels to be used simultaneously, specifically the primary drive and whatever second use drive is in play. Having anything running at the same time on the same drive there is only one resource available so there's a queue. Additionally, if the game drive is getting more use than the cache drive, it may put a strain on it. You don't want all the eggs in one basket as if there is a failure, you lose everything.

I really appreciate this and the links you shared. I wish I had seen your link before on explaining your methodology in choosing parts because the information that gave compared to the outdated articles I was reading was night and day.

Pretty much covered by the above. There's a link on "Why more than one storage drive" also though, which covers this more in depth. You never want to be partitioning nowadays IMO. It's a performance degradation, it's complicated and it's just not required as there are so many storage options now to completely separate all use cases.
