AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D still waiting on stock ? ?

And it went from 20/11/24 to I think end of January 2025. Is it due to people ordering systems and being able to nab the CPUs as they come in, delaying the "anyone else can use this in their system order" possibility? The stock coming in has been pushed back at least 3 times now so is it PC Specialist are not able to get them in or old orders are snapping them up as they do?

Unless things have changed in recent times, PCS use a "first in, first out" system.....if thy get 6 in, then the first 6 get them. The only exception always was on the next day pre-built PCs and the ones sold at Currys etc..however, I note there are no next day dispatch ones with the 7800x3D.

However, currently, I think it is more a case of them not being able to source the chips from their suppliers...it's strange that their suppliers can't source it yet non system builders can (they are in stock at places like Scan and Overclockers).

Anyway, it might be worth, if budget allows, changing your order to put in the 9800x3D (the 7800x3D's successor)....though a motherboard swap may be beneficial too (you can change parts as you like for no charge up until they start building). If you post a thread in the "check my spec" section with budget, uses, monitor if gaming etc, then we could give it the once over to make sure you aren't over or under spending

Maybe PCS are not willing to pay close to 9800X3D prices for the older 7800X3D...especially when their configurator is still claiming it's £151 cheaper part now (which would be about right for the relative performance between the two models)...compared to a £20-£40 difference showing on Scan, Overclockers, Curry's.

PCS currently charges £480 for the 9800X3D and if you take the £151 difference off from the configurator, it makes the PCS 7800X3D £330. But I'm assuming PCS have decided to create some margin in the parts for now so the they can offer 'deals' later, as the GPU prices have risen by about 10% recently too.

But as FoYI says above, PSC have never shown it as pre-orderable since it went out of stock, so I can't believe there's any queue of outstanding orders for them.

Yes, considering the way in which the date moves forward and your info it sounds like it is a sourcing issue. I just wondered if there was a queue of pre-orders/people phoning up and ordering to "reserve" items coming in. So appears since they do not do that it is down to low stock overall/not being sucked into buying overpriced chips.

It has just been frustrating deciding to upgrade my i9-7980XE/1080 Ti setup about a month after the 7800x3d "issue" started.
I will have another browse at the options. I just saw the new 9800x3d as a more expensive side grade (and also getting low stock) whereby I would be just using games and didn't want to muck about with the 3d core use.

The 3D core is what made the 7800x3D the king of gaming chips and now the 9800x3D. You don't muck about with it as the system uses the 3D chiplet automatically. It's the 3D chiplet that makes these chips the best around:

I might have been getting mixed between the 9800 and the Ryzen 9 7900/7950 X3Ds (where I might havve read about the issue of making sure the gaming core is used correctly).

I've popped my system I am looking at as you said (Check my Rig) so will see what turns up.
I presume the 9800X3D is better than the 7800X3D and all comes down to the shortages and difference in (previous) cost. The "budget" (as in cheaper and older) one being far too popular and people avoiding the new 9s due to cost etc.

The 7900x3D is the same as the R7 ones but the chiplet is smaller so performs worse in gaming. The 7950x3D would the one you were thinking of...it is basically a 7800x3D with a second chiplet on top...so, in gaming, you'd have to park one of them

I have been staring at the order screen for a month or more. So will not be ordering this year possibly anyway (and would accept the delays due to Xmas) unless my 1080Ti dies or whatever is failing with my current system.

I am in no real rush other than that (and sort of wanted my games to look better, especially STALKER 2).
