Any issues with this build?

Looking to get a new PC and i have a decent budget, what I;m looking for is something that'll last. What I mean by that is, something that can run modern games (space marine 2, stellaris, total war etc) for the next 5 years. On top of that, I want room to upgrade in the future instead of having to get an entire new build. What I mean specifically is that the CPU is strong enough to support the next gen of GPUs.

Anyway, I'm a bit of a scrub with hardware, this all looks beefy to me but I have no idea if I've made stupid choices.

What will the PC be used for? Just gaming or other tasks as well?

What is your max budget? A "decent budget" doesn't give us any information at all. We could spec something for £4K or £1,500.

What monitor will you be using with the build?

ah ok, the current monitor is acer kg272 sbmiipfx (i don't think it's 4k).
Mainly for gaming, some work with vms but 32gb should be fine imo.

as far as budget, up to 3k really

By the time you get another monitor new GPUs will probably be out, so you’ll be wasting money buying a 4K GPU now.

Might as well buy a very good 1080p build, with everything other than the GPU in place for a future GPU upgrade, once you get your monitor…as the monitor you get will dictate the GPU you’ll need at that time.

I guess this is my main question. See with my current build (i7-9700K, rtx 2060) it doesn't make sense getting say a 4080 super as my cpu is so old. I'm therefore hoping by getting the 7950X3D i'm kinda future proofing myself a bit. I'm also hoping the rest of the build makes sense around that aha (eg, power supply, cooling etc)

The 7950X3D is no faster in gaming than the 7800X3D (which out of stock for about a month). The 7950X3D only makes sense if you have a heavy multi-core workload use for the extra cores.

If your PSU is up to the challenge I would argue the 9700K would be good enough for gaming for a number of years to come. You just need to upgrade the GPU. You're not going to get bottlenecking over 1080p with it, not at any sensible FPS.

With that in mind I would use the money to get a decent monitor and a GPU ugprade.

How does the 9700k stack up against the 12700? I ask as that is the recommended CPU for Space Marine 2 for 1080p60 at ultra. granted you can always lower settings but just wondering if it would be too old?

9700K is 8pc/8pt, the 12700 is 8pc+4ec/16pt+4et, so that might make a significant difference for the right application.

5800X is recommended as well for the same level of performance. 9700k won't be that far off, especially when considering how much it costs to change the system.

I don't believe it's a particularly FPS centric game though, even hitting 30 would give a good experience I imagine, I've not played Warhammer for years though.

I have seen mention that the 9700k is struggling on this game, although capping the fps to 30 may make things better:

The game is still quite unoptimised at present so things may get better. It's also worth checking this article as it has some settings advice:

that person's rig is inbetween the minimum and recommended specs so....
