Bought a new pc, specs will be below but is there any possible amendments or should I be fine?

HI I have been reading these forums for awhile and think the first thing the more PC savvy members of the board will tell you that you should not have just 1 hard drive. My understanding is to have a 500mb Hard Drive for the operating system and another for games and storage. So that if you had to replace the OS you files are protected. Just a thought for you until the big guns look at your post.

I should've mentioned this but I was planning to install my old hard drive in the new system so that I don't need do anything to move them over. So would you say go down to a 500gb SSD and get an additional for games?

Remember I am no expert just some one reading these boards. i would use the SSD for the OS so you can drop that down to 500gb.
i should also say to help get a better response to your request the volunteer helpers on these forums would like your budget, monitor size, and the link to your configuration so that they they can tailor the build to you.

When you say full HD, are you referring to 1080p monitors?

if so the 3080 is pointless and you need a cheaper card, a maximum of 3060 Ti.

is there a specific reason you want Intel?

AMD is by a country mile a far better option.

storage, best bet is taking advantage of M.2 speed, a Samsung 970 500gb for OS

With a £2200 budget in mind I think it's time you made the move up to 1440p. With that in mind I've specced out the below build for you with a 3060ti GPU. No HDD needed and you should be able to transfer windows 10 from your old system. Comes to just under £1700 which gives you £500 to spend on a nice 1440p 144hz monitor. Monitor advice is less in my wheelhouse, but I'm sure @Martinr36 will recommend the Odyssey G7 which he rocks in his personal setup.

Yeah 1080p monitors, I do plan on upgrading them to 2K or 4K but it won't be for a while.

The reason for Intel is more just because every system I've had, it's been Intel. So it's more a comfort pick than anything else.

Is 16GB of RAM enough? It'll be for gaming

It comforts you to waste money on a worse CPU?

All in all, you need to make decisions and you're sitting on too many fences.

You've got ancient tech monitors you're apparently not upgrading for ages. Pointless buying a new pc for them then. Just buy a cheap GPU now for whatever system you're currently using.

If you're actually going to buy new monitors now does that eat up your pc budget?

After reading into it and looking at unbiased reviews and benchmarks and the majority of opinions in this forum I personally would strongly go amd over intel for my own use and I come from a background of only ever using intel my next build im going for 5900x you should look into intel vs amd as im sure you will come to the same realization

It's a comfort because I don't know the difference between them and thought it best to stick to something I know. I don't know all the differences between the different CPUs.

What fences am I sitting on?
The 3080 surely means that I won't need to upgrade my GPU for a very long time, right?

I don't really know what's better than what, all I want is to essentially future proof my PC, I don't want to have to upgrade something in a year 2.

Will my current build do that?

When I was looking at benchmarks for the CPU, the nearest AMD was a lot more expensive than the i9 10850k, but that link above says the £300 AMD outperforms it....I'm so confused and I wish I had waited and properly looked into it

Right now I would recommend cancelling your order and going with an AMD build. You are choosing Intel because you've used it before, we are telling you as people who have done the research that AMD is the better choice at present.
With a 3080 you're likely to be in pre-production for 10 weeks anyway. Posted an AMD build earlier, besides the GPU all the components should last 7-10 years. GPUs are the fastest evolving component, it is almost impossible to futureproof. Buying a 3080 for a 1080p display is frankly a waste of money, you will be far better off saving the money for an upgraded GPU a few years down the line. If we follow the current trend of upgradeability in 2022 the 4060 will outperform the 3080 and be around £200 cheaper, so in 2 years time your purchase will be made redundant with no performance boost in that 2 year period to warrant it.

I'm guessing you were looking at CPUbenchmark or userbenchmark.

If you read that linked thread above it tells you why not to use sites like that.

Intel are really really poor processors in every area, vastly outperformed by AMD. A £250 AMD 5600x outperforms Intels best £500 10900k.

You'd be crazy to go with intel in any way.

Also, the GPU is a waste for your monitor.

I would also recommend cancelling and getting some advice on something suitable.

You can't amend Intel to AMD, just cancel and start again.

But be patient. You're not going to get a 3080 PC anytime soon anyway so just spend a day or two on here taking your time getting the best build for your budget from the advice.

If you're actually going to get new monitors as soon as February then a 3080 build becomes more sensible as that's about when your 3080 PC would arrive anyway. But you want to be spending £500-1000 on a monitor that would make a 3080 worthwhile. Ultrawide 1440p and the like.

So next natural question is... Can you afford both a 3080 pc and a monitor that costs that much?

Basically how kuch can you afford to spend on PC and monitors?

I've sent a message to PCSpecialist to see what they say but looks like I'll just cancel. Well I have £2200 for the main PC and I'd probably look around for a monitor but since it'll be main monitor then I'd be will to go to £750 for one that suits me.
I don't need to look into 4K right?
