Backlight not working: OPTIMUS SERIES RGB BACKLIT

Received my laptop today, installed the operating system, installed the drivers, backlight on keyboard still not working!

Any advice? I'm not sure whether the computer is even recognising that it's an RGB keyboard.

OK - re Windows then, have you followed through and run windows update until there are absolutely not more updates.

Then have a look in the Device Manager to see if you have any exclamation marks or red x's regarding devices that may not have drivers.

Its best to rule out all possible 'software' / driver issues first before considering it to be the hardware.

Just ran a DirectX and it says this below:

There is a problem with Microsoft Basic Display Adapter device. For more information, search for “graphics device driver error code 31”.

I expect I've missed a driver somewhere.

When you installed your windows, how did you do this - a full CLEAN install, or just used the install that PCS already had there?

Full clean install.

I've realised that the vVidiaVGA_W10 driver file won't download from the driver list on PCSpecialist

Could this be the issue?

OK the best routine is:

- CLEAN install
- Run windows update until no more updates
- nvidia website - geforce experience / drivers.

then check to see whats missing - hopefully nothing

Also, what’s your idea of a clean install? Sorry to ask but a lot of people don’t realise it’s different from a windows reset.

I uninstalled the default Windows Home and installed a fully licenced version of Windows 10 Pro.

Thanks for the driver advice, trying it now.

How did you uninstall the default windows?

When installing what did you do with existing partitions?

UPDATE:

I called PC Specialist directly in the end and they've asked me to send it back for them to have a look at. That was after them trying to think of anything that it could be and looking at it remotely.

The backlight turned on start up this morning and then turned off again so it's working. I'll post back here when I find out what the issue is!

Did you get anywhere with this? I'm having pretty much the same issue after receiving my laptop today. Blatted the partitions and did a clean install of Win10 Pro. Downloaded and installed the drivers from my download page, including control center. Lets me change the colours - but no ability to turn it on!

I had the same issue on the AMD version of the laptop. I had never used a laptop with a before. I fiddled with the settings in the gaming centre. I set the back light on in EZ switch menu with a 5 min time and it started working. in lighting i picked monochrome and brightness.
Its now worked without issue

Weirdly it started working the next day but I still sent it off for PC specialist to check!

They noticed that the incorrect version of Game Center was installed, which was the one I’d downloaded from the driver list so maybe that’s the same problem?

That’s exactly the same issue I had though! Sounds like a dumb question and I’m sure you’ve checked but has the Windows product key worked correctly? As I wondered whether this was my issue as I hadn’t noticed the key hadn’t taken. But it wasn’t instant that it fixed the problem so sceptical that this was the full issue.
