Backlight not working: OPTIMUS SERIES RGB BACKLIT

Weirdly it started working the next day but I still sent it off for PC specialist to check!

They noticed that the incorrect version of Game Center was installed, which was the one I’d downloaded from the driver list so maybe that’s the same problem?

That’s exactly the same issue I had though! Sounds like a dumb question and I’m sure you’ve checked but has the Windows product key worked correctly? As I wondered whether this was my issue as I hadn’t noticed the key hadn’t taken. But it wasn’t instant that it fixed the problem so sceptical that this was the full issue.
Yep key has taken and it's been happily doing updates. What version of game center did they give you?
I had the same issue on the AMD version of the laptop. I had never used a laptop with a before. I fiddled with the settings in the gaming centre. I set the back light on in EZ switch menu with a 5 min time and it started working. in lighting i picked monochrome and brightness.
Its now worked without issue
So the option to turn the backlight on/off is missing from my game center. When it first opens I think I briefly see something about timers appear (greyed out) then it vanishes and all I have is display sections onwards. I'm wondering if it's the keyboard driver being wrong, should it register as a standard PS/2 in device manager? If not I think that might be why it doesn't appear in game center, it doesn't know it exists!

If the product key you entered for a retail license wasn't accepted then it's either a hookey key or it's for a different version of Windows (Home vs Pro)...

They haven’t told me which version they’ve changed it to. My laptop should be back tomorrow so I’ll let you know when I receive it.

Don't suppose you mind sharing that file in some way? Worth a try to see if a different version works?

To be honest @dynomutt0 - I dont think it would be wise to just in case there are reasons it is different (how old is the build, other conflicting drivers/chipsets etc) - my suggestion would be to contact PCS directly and ask them why there is a difference and if you could try a different version software.

I'm not even sure why I have got a different version running than has been provided in my downloads section but expect that is to do with build images.

Have you checked what version you have in your downloads section?

Same version as mentioned above, I had to download it when I installed Win 10 pro, I already had the licence so didn't need to pay for another one with the laptop.
Yep, fired off an email already but being the weekend wasn't expecting anything back until Monday at the earliest. Always found the community is just as good as the tech support when it comes to these things. 🙂
No worries though, we'll see what comes back from PCS.

Hi,

@dynomutt0 , @enla_est89 , have you heard back from PCSpecialist? We're having the exact same issue with the laptop we just received. Same chassis (TongFang GK7IDR) and the control center version that we can download from the account page is also the 1.1.0.24 one. It allows us to pick a color, but the on/off option is missing from the lighting page. The shortcuts on the keyboard don't do anything either. fn+f6/f7 look like they are meant to change the brightness of the backlight, but it seems impossible to turn on the backlight to begin with.

Thanks!

I checked the BIOS, but I'm pretty sure there isn't any option regarding the backlight in there.

Can you post your full spec from the order page please. did you order Windows with it or have you installed it yourself?

I attached the specs. Windows was pre-installed. Just had to update it. We also (manually) installed the latest nvidia drivers.

Uninstall Bullguard - not sure it is affecting this but has been known to cause some issues and windows Defender works just as well.

Can you go into your Device Manager and check that you have no yellow warning triangles / exclamation marks etc?

Do all your other function keys work - ie if you pressed Fn + F8/F9 or F10 does it change the volume, if you press Fn+F11/F12 does it change brightness on screen

If you press Fn+F5 does it lock/unlock the touchpad?

Have you got a Control Centre / GamingCenter icon in the bottom right hand corner at all (or in the ^ section).

We did all of these things. We immediately removed bullguard, device manager is fine, all of the other function keys work, and the icon is there (we can open the control center just fine too, and the turbo button also changes the setting in the control center).

We did also call and email pcspecialist so we'll see what they come up with.

Have you downloaded the Control Centre file that is in your downloads and tried reinstalling it?
