Bought a PC with RTX 2070 super, got RTX 2070 Super Mini

Hi guys,

I bought a PC with an RTX 2070 Super, i7 10700 etc etc etc etc

Everything is awesome, except the 2070 super used is the MINI variant.

I really don't agree with this. I know it's a 2070 super, but it runs hotter and is not as powerful. It's also cheaper.

Nowhere does it say it's the mini. In the pics when buying it was a full size card.

I would have bought something else (from PC specialist obv) if you said it was the mini.

What's my options, I really don't want to ship the PC back. I'm happy for you to ship me a proper 2070 and ill ship you the mini back in the box.

The Zotac 2070 Super Mini is what the general stock card is atm, i have one in my machine.
I asked during the build process and was told this would be what was used....its not a bad card, just not the best one, and at about £350 cost when building its not a bad deal either.... retail price is nearer £425 and an "average" 2070 super will cost about £500....more if you go for a high performance one like EVGA or Asus strix models.

Currys/pcworld etc are horrifically bad at actual info and advice....
I wanted to know which card so contacted PCS, I got a direct answer back telling me the full name of the card and a link to the manufacturer website for it so i could see its exact specs. I bought direct though.
From past experience, I wouldnt trust staff at PCWorld or Curry's to tell me how to turn a kettle on.

I once asked Currys if an office pc they sold could have 2 monitors. One guy said I'd need to spend £1500+ and the other guy told me it depended on the graphics card in the monitors.

This card seems to run hot and throttle a lot. One of the reasons I bought this PC was because my mini it's system with a 1660ti was throttling. Pains me to say it, but I think I'm going to have to do battle with Currys returns :(

As a side note, I think it's incredibly bad business to be putting mini cards in these machines and not specifying so. They run hotter, they are not as powerful and they are cheaper. They are a completely different board design and as such should be advertised as the mini varuent. I'm not sure if it's still the same, but the Intel processors used to be the exact same silicone across the i5 and i7 board, but they were branded with their model numbers depending on tolerances to stress during internal testing. You knew if you bought an i7 940 it was the same as a 920 but should run better. It's not fair to put a cheaper, hotter, less powerful card with a totally different board design and say you're selling a PC with a 2070 super. Bad business is bad business, Currys side for not stating, but I also assume they only had the info PCS supplied.

It's sneaky at best. What do I know though, I have 0 legal training.

Just talked to customer service (new guy on the team) and he was very helpful.

I too had specced a 2070 super in my build, and he confirmed that i would be receiving a mini-card. According to him (he's new remember) it is all they have in stock. Safe to say, I upgraded to 2080 super to avoid a lesser quality card.

Good to know you got through, my call was disconnected whilst on hold at 35 minutes exactly.

Just been reading through this thread as I’m considering the 2070 super and when looking at the options I noticed that there is an ASUS ROG STRIX GEOFORCE 2070 super and assume this is a full sized card though I do see it’s only £20 more for PCS’s stock 2080 super so would assume the 2080 is better overall value rather than a straight swap out of components if you want to guarantee not getting the mini. Also I take it the AMD Radion series does not compare to the Nividia cards as I notice even the RX 5700 XT is much cheaper so assume may not be as good as the 2000 nivida series

With the 5700XT, it can be better than a 2070 super in SOME games. So i'd suggest some research into the games you play and see which gets the best fps etc.

I wouldn’t recommend an AMD card as they’re still getting driver issues leading to stuttering and BSODS and black screens, just worth avoiding.

Points taken with the AMD GPUs, and the only reason I would be thinking of even going to a 2080S was because the STRIX was because the STRIX card is only £20 less as the system monitor is going to be a 1440p 144hz

Does anybody know what cards the rtx 2080ti would be?
Would it be more advisable for me to get the asus rog strix version?
How would performance differ?

Thanks man, I'll check that now.

Quick update on this, I'm on the phone to a guy at Currys who agrees it's rubbish that the system was not advertised properly and is contacting stores to see if they have a proper 2070 super (or 2080 super) in stock to swap out for me. I'll keep this updated.

Good customer support from Currys for once. Actually going out of their way to help.

First thing the guy said was he has a 2070 super, so I guess its a tribal thing ha.

Still on hold though, so I'm not out the woods yet.

Spoke too soon. So the original guy went to talk to my local store to see if they had the 2070 in stock (they did, I checked) but then left me on hold for 90 minutes before I eventually hung up.

I called back, they're replacing the pc.

Probably going to be another mini in which case I'll get a refund, suck it up and just build it myself.
