Build for 1440p gaming

Hello everyone,

Hope I'm doing this right, can I have a build recommended for me, budget around £1500-£1600 but could push that up a little if required (think my budget should comfortably cover the games I typically play though). To be used for gaming, on PC I mainly play games that are best suited to PC gaming, so stuff like Football Manager, Doom, Civilization, would like to play the new Balder's Gate at top settings.

Thanks in advance. Last used PCS a decade ago and was really impressed with the service I got then.

This might be a good start. I'm not sure it would manage "top settings" (to be honest, top settings are kind of stupid and should never really be used), but it would manage very solid settings and performance.

If you want to go for a more expensive CPU, with no upgrade path, which produces more heat, and which doesn't perform significantly better, and presuming you're going for something sensibly mid-range like the 13600K or maybe at a push the 13700K, the Tuf Z790 should be about right.

But you'll probably get the impression from that that I don't think Intel is a good plan.

The current intel offerings are EOL. The socket is discontinued so there is no upgrade path. The socket was an attempt to try and overcome certain shortcomings from the repeated use of an antiquated architecture. It worked, but unfortunately to make it work it took a TON of power and this leads to ridiculous thermals from the chips.

No open minded enthusiast will ever recommend going down this route. At the moment the AM5 is by far the most sensible option as it offers a future (upgrades and socket support through to 2025, possibly further). ZEN3 is new architecture that is insanely power efficient and performs within margin to the relevant Intel offerings at a fraction of the power. Next generation it won't even be close as the AM5 will be way past anything 13k intel can offer.

TLDR; AMD is the way to go with the platform, no doubt.

If you really want to opt for Intel and you're happy for a dead end platform then I would suggest the 13600k on DDR4. This is by far the best value that Intel offer, it can be cooled admirably and it performs quite well across the board. This won't be true when DDR5 is better utilised, but closed view of current landscape it's the best value there is from Intel.

Thanks for your help fellas, placed order last week and it's currently in pre production.

I note PCS are currently offering 6000Mhz memory on their builds, which wasn't the case when I placed the order, is it worth seeing if I can get the order tweaked to include that?
