Considering buying the nova 15.6

Hey. I was considering buying the nova 15.6”. Anyone have opinions on these specs?
The purpose is mainly gaming, but also watching YouTube, Netflix etc. I would use the laptop mainly in my bed or coach, with a cooling pad (which is why i took a 15.6”). I want this to fulfill any gaming need for at least 5 years if not longer, without me having to worry about a thing.
And yes I know that 32 gb ram is a bit much for just gaming, but my current laptop uses like 7 gb (partly due to me having 17 taps open), and since games like Red Dead Redemption 2 recommends 10gb I thought it would be better to have too much than too little.
Budget max 2600£

Also does anyone know the answers to any of the following?
  1. 1. What kind of fps could I expect? (for example in far cry 5. Just cause 4, red dead 2 or HoI4)?
  2. 2. Would it be possible to play vr games on it, and how would they perform? (currently don't have anything to do with vr, but I might want to look into it at some point)
  3. 3. It states that the keyboard is multicolored. What colors might that be (can only see the blue it shows on the pics)?
  4. 4. In regards to the battery, how long can I expect it would keep up to 2 hours of charge? Like i know it will degrade over time and there are many variables to it, but any general idea?
  5. 5. Also how easy would it be to change the battery, since you can order 2 batteries? Do you need a screwdriver? Would it be “practical” to remove the battery, when it's plugged in, and then put it back when having to move it, to preserve it as long as possible?
Thank you

The Nova is pretty new so I don't think a huge amount of feedback has been given yet regarding its performance, that being said I'd expect it to be able to handle quite a lot, comfortably (at least I hope so, as I'm waiting for mine as we speak). Depending on how long you're willing to wait, I'm going to do a fair bit of benchmarking and will post what I find here!

About point 4 and 5 though, the Nova is to be considered more of a desktop replacement (DTR) as opposed to a laptop, so expect very poor battery life (I think 2 hours would be generous and you probably wouldn't achieve this whilst gaming), and from what I understand, it's quite heavy so using it on your lap could be quite uncomfortable. I know you mentioned a cooling pad, it'll certainly need to ventilation.

It sacrifices portability for power, whilst being small form to tidy it away if need be.

I'll wait, since I have eye surgery in a few days anyway and wouldn't be able to use a screen for a week. It's listed as 2.7 kg, where as the second laptop I'm looking at is listed at 2.5 kg, so not much difference. (maybe the weight doesn't include the specs but just the case?) I don't expect to have it run on battery very much (its been months since my current laptop has). I just like the option to relatively easily move it to another place with a socket, without turning it off. Do you have similar specs or?

Hope all goes well with the surgery mate!

Yeah possibly, happy to try and weigh it when I get it too haha. Well it'll certainly hold enough power to move it around I'd expect, just not for extended sessions on battery which sounds fine for you.

Spec wise mine is pretty similar apart from 16GB RAM and a 1TB HDD & 500GB SSD, so performance and weight wise, it'll be pretty similar.

The Nova chassis with a 2070 was due back in stock yesterday, but I don't believe it's came in yet, so we might be waiting a little longer for it to reach us. When it arrives though, I'll be sure to post some more info about it (I'll try and remember to tag you).

Congrats!

On the thermal paste, contrary to what it suggests on the order page, this one comes with the better thermal paste as standard (the only option on the builder anyway).

Defo mirror what Nursemorph says on the warranty!

That's certainly a powerful laptop!! Couple of small things I'd suggest:

- Get the thermal paste...while it obviously comes with some anyway, it is always good to go with better, especially with laptops given the heat they produce.

- Upgrade the warranty to Silver..only £5 more and much better coverage

I only have one option for both; the standard paste (I will buy some artic silver from another webside though, unless you know of som better paste), and the gold warranty so... Not able to choose something else

As to the warranty, I suspect that may be because you are shipping it to Denmark as Silver is available to me if I go into the config. My apologies again
Its fine, you couldn't have known. Yeah probably. I didn't notice that it was standard warranty in my original specs. I changed the county to be UK so everything would be in English and I guess there is slightly different option depending on country 🤷‍♂️. The other things I changed is having 2 ac adopters and 1 tb of M.2 SSD drive

No news yet mate, 21 working days (ordered 4th May).

There's been a delay to the chassis coming from China (understandable), I got an email last week saying they should have arrived on Saturday, so I asked today if they have been, no word yet, I'll let you know when I hear back.

As the Nova is so new, there's a backlog of around 30 apparently.

The page for ordering the Nova no longer says out of stock, so there's some hope!

Nice! Mines in testing since yesterday morning. Guy emailed me to say it should be ready for dispatch today, for delivery tomorrow. But can't see it happening (not being spiteful, just know they have a ton on!)
