Corsair H100x Fan Noise

Hey Guys,

Had my new PC for about 2 months now. I'm really chuffed with it but I'm having a slight noise issue.

I have the Corsair H100x Hydro Cooler w/ PCS Ultra Quiet Fans, and honestly there is nothing 'Ultra Quiet' about it. I have paired it with a Ryzen 5800X. I know that CPU runs very hot, but when it gets above 60 degree, the CPU cooler goes massively into overdrive, and it sounds like I'm stood next to a jet engine. To be honest the cooler is still quite loud above 40 degrees, but when it gets into the 60's it's crazy loud.

If it's this loud with the 'ultra quiet' fans, how loud is the stock model??

Is this normal even with the 'ultra quiet' fans? And is there anything I can do to lower the fan speed or noise without affecting the CPU temps?

Thanks guys!

What are your full specs?

Have you tried to adjust AIO fans' speeds on ICUE or Bios?

The above isn't full specs, did it come with OS or you've installed it yourself? Drivers and Win 10 fully updated? When you open ICUE, does it recognise and show this AIO? If so, you can adjust fan speeds on ICUE, if not, then do it through Bios ;)

What's the AIO position - top horizontally or front vertically?

Mine were also running quite loud (not just the 2 on the cooler, but the 2 on the front of the case) out of the box.

It took me a while to learn how to use iCue to create custom fan curves, and then a while to work out what levels of heat/noise I was comfortable with. Your's will probably end up being configured slightly differently to mine due to the different AIO and case (H100i Platinum and iCUE 220T case).

Sorry to say, but it's a bit of trial & error.

Mine are now set so that, with the exception of heavy loads, it's quieter than my Thunderbolt 4-bay enclosure fan.

For the AIO, I've got the pump set on the pre-set 'balanced', and the AIO fans on a steady climb, but they don't go above 50% until the water temp hits 50ºc.

Also you'll have to check what sensor the fans are using as triggers, as I noticed the AIO was using its own coolant temp, whereas the case fans were using the CPU temp. This made setting similar fan curves difficult as I never knew which temp was causing the fans to ramp up.

I still have one noisier fan, but that's the bottom case fan, and it's purely because it's partly obstructed by the case/HDD bay cover.

Came installed with win 10 home, drivers and win 10 fully updated.
haven't tried ICUE first as wanted to ask advice before manually messing about with it. Mounted top horizontal

No it won't have. It's always necessary to run Windows Update on any new PC as soon as you receive it. There are always updates to the system and drivers installed by PCS.

Have you ever run Windows Update?

I highly recommend repeatedly running Windows updates for a few days until fully updated. This may take some time and a few restarts.

Only then a graphics card drivers should be installed.

Check the below thread. Hope this helps ;)

When all of it is done, as above, on the ICUE will need to adjust settings for fans and pump speed.

I manually check for updates (windows, drivers etc) every couple of days, everything is 100% up to date. GPU drivers included.

Will download ICUE and try to mess about with the fan speed settings.
Can anyone recommend a good metrics overlay to help me monitor this in game without being too bulky.

The H100x doesn't have software control with iCUE.

Check which header on the motherboard the fans are plugged into, they should be in the CH_1, CH_2 type headers.

Then you'd need to adjust them with the motherboard software which would be AI Suite I think

Ah, that's what I was afraid of but wasn't sure about :( Thanks for clarifying! I think only the Corsair H (whatever numbers) i is iCUE supported, but not x.

Damn... if I can adjust it through the motherboard, is it just a manual adjustment each time or can I modify the fan curve?
