Finally got my issue sorted with my previous Recoil Laptop (Unfortunately looks like I'll be avoiding TongFang in the future)

So now I'm looking to replace it with a more reliable (In my experience) Clevo.

Just 2 things really. My refunded Laptop had an RTX 2070, how does the 3070 Max-Q compare? Not familiar with the Max-Q variants really. The non Max-Q GPU's only seem to be on offer in TongFang chassis' at the moment.

And I'm quite interested in the Ryzen processors. They seem to be comparable performance wise whilst using less power, which is ideal for a laptop where thermals are important. Any news on them? A Ryzen CPU in this particular spec would be great. I've already seen some other Clevo resellers in other countries have them on offer in some form. Laptop isn't available until 22.02 anyway so can wait if need be.

AMD CPU / 3070 laptop, just a dream? | PCSPECIALIST

The RTX 3060 is available in the Defiance at the moment (non MaxQ variant).

Just a couple of observations:

- only 1 drive? - is it worth considering adding a small drive just to put the OS and programs on and then your games/data on second drive?

- no Windows 10 licence? If they have refunded your last one, that will also include a refund for the licence (if you bought it via them) so will you still have a valid licence to use?

Would suggest you ask PCS directly re when they think they might get the Ryzens back in.

Sorry cant advise on how good MaxQ v normal v Super is on the GPUs and cant find the post I have seen in the past that showed the stages of better GPUs in the 2000 series laying out the MaxQ / Supers etc in that.

Just 1 drive for the best value right now. There's only 2 bags so I maxed out the 1 option. Speedy enough for OS and a lot more I think.

Na, didn't buy Windows from them.

Will wait a little more then regarding Ryzen. Cheers

With any luck too there might be more choice around 1440p screens too.

Hi, do you mean that when a generic GPU is specified, we can assume it's a MaxP, whereas it's a MaxQ only when specifically mentioned like in "3060 Max Q"? Thanks!

Yes if it’s just stated as 3080 then it’s a max p, if it’s any other variant it will be stated as such. Max p is the “normal” card

So here's the only info I have from PCSpec.

"We don’t have anything concrete yet for Ryzen and the 3070, but this hopefully shouldn’t be too far off."

Looks like it will be worth waiting a little bit. Hopefully be a Clevo barebones again.

Seeing some nice other brand machines with Ryzen and 3070 around, reasonable price too. Hoping PCSpec's Laptops aren't too far off, would rather remain a customer with them if possible.

Getting more and more tempting though..

Yeah, you've been waiting for a while already. If I were you and really needed the laptop, I would go for the Intel regardless (or another reseller, if that's feasible).

Regarding your doubt about 3060 max-P or 3070 max-Q, I would prefer to have a max-Q variant on the defiance, as it is a thin laptop. For now, we only have reviews on the forum of the Elimina chassis (which is 10mm thicker) with a 3060 max-P, and both are running quite hot already. So for a thinner laptop, the max-Q variant is recommended and you're still likely to have a bit better performance, since the 3070 has a better chip and faster memory.

Yeah I'm not too worried about heat. All the Clevos I've had seem to manage.

The other brand I'm looking at has a full 3070 though, higher wattage than some 3080s. Temps seem acceptable, plus Ryzen and 1440p. A good all round deal it seems.

Regarding the max Q variants, I called up to query this the other day. Their reply was that they’re still running test on their stock... however currently the rough TGP of the 3070 and 3080 max Q variants are 80W and 90W respectively, while the DBT might provide an additional 20W to those totals in the Max Q versions. Incoming stock may also vary from this, and may use more of the configurable TGP than current variants.

If you’re looking elsewhere, I would still double check the power/clock speeds with other sellers because the “full 3070” are sometimes still the max-Q variants, but configured with slightly higher TGP. And since NVIDIA has moved away from the whole max-P/max-Q label and told retail to follow suit, it can be hard to distinguish max-Q/max-P versions without some sort of displayed info on the power/speeds

It's 130w. Seems to outdo a fair few 3080 versions which is nice.

Excellent find, that truly is a max-p 3070. Hopefully more distributors will start adding GPU power and speeds to make things more transparent for customers with this new marketing strat from NVIDIA. I’m sure we’ll get more clarity in a couple of months

Hope so. Still waiting on stuff from PCSpec but been without a good machine now since October. Just keeps getting more tempting to go for that one :D

Given the current sky high prices, waiting a while is a good option. The Ryzens are very good, have had a Nova for a couple of weeks and very impressed. Shame not in 17" but still a fine machine.

Yeah. Ryzen seems to be the way to go, even single threaded performance right now seems superior to Intel's offerings which is nice. And whilst this is purely my own speculation, since they use less power I'm guessing this will have a positive impact on thermals which is important.
