Well a few weeks later and i have an update.

Sent the laptop off back to PCSpecialist and within a week i had an email from the technician to say that the screen was indeed broken and needed replacing. There was a slight misunderstanding about who was going to pay for the screen but a quick call to the customer care guys sorted that out and they agreed they were covering the cost.

So i now have the laptop back and so far so good.

Hopefully this new screen will hold up better.
