Desktop Spec Advice

Hello Everyone,

A couple of years ago, I posted here seeking advice on a desktop build after years of relying solely on a laptop. I'm reaching out again and would greatly appreciate your help.

My usage includes:
  • Video and image editing/production
  • Running multiple development containers simultaneously
  • Software development
  • General-purpose computing, with the added ability to run a game or two with decent performance.
I have a budget of up to 3,300 euros (lower is always welcome), and I'm not looking for monitors. A key requirement for me is a minimum of 64GB RAM to handle my workload effectively.

If anyone could recommend a build that fits these criteria, I’d be incredibly grateful!

A poster said to wait for some changes to happen in the coming months and I waited and then circumstances changed (new house, a kid etc) so just back to being able to finance this again! This time I need to buy within the next few weeks!

This would be my suggestion, it's a real shame you're having to buy now as you're right at the end of the current GPU lifecycle, and they stopped production about a month ago so prices are exorbitant, as well as lower tier Nvidia 5000 series cards will beat them when they're released in January so you'd pay far less for more performance

I've left out a backup storage drive simply because of budget, but that's something you can add at any time very easily. I'd highly recommend either Western Digital Red Pro drives, or the Seagate Ironwolf Pro's. You may have a NAS setup already.

Thanks very much. God I have deja vu from the timing of my request - is it fair to say I'm probably always a few months behind something that would be better if I waited?

I'll go over the spec now, and, if ok, I'll fire back any questions, but from a glance it looks great.

Intel are simply broken, absolutely dreadful processors, they're what AMD were 7 years ago. AMD are streets ahead, it's not even close.

Intel 13th and 14th Gen confirmed defective

So there's been a lot of upset gathering steam on the inter webs with intermittent games crashes on Intel 13th and 14th gen. Workarounds range from underclocking to disabling ecores. BUT, there are a lot of people finding that simply disabling hyperthreading is a proper solution. The findings...

Perfect - that's good enough for me. I had my one and only AMD chip in a machine back late 90's, early 2000's. It was not the best experience. I guess times change :)

I had AMD for a few years in early 2000s, they were definitely the budget go to but yeah, not great.
They’re a completely different company now, totally dominating in CPUs and giving nvidia a run for their money in GPUs

Part of the issue is picking the low-level 650W CX PSU. I’d be going for the 1200RMx Shift for this level of build.

The 5600MHz & 6000MHz RGB RAM is out of stock but the 6000MHz non-RGB stuff isn’t.

Finally, the USB3 notice is just to make sure you check the motherboard has 2 USB3 headers, which it does (don’t know why they configuration can’t check this itself though).
