Okay the thing is I'm gonna get six core because I am an idiot and that i'm planning or hoping that this PC will last more than 5-7-10 years don't matter as long as games will Work not run perfectly, Work...Gonna be using this till it turns into garbage! Well okay don't judge me on this one...

Motherboard Umm Yeah I need a sound card I guess this will work for now until I decide and get money for a external one...

ram well ram don't matter to much just want 12+ and that's it, Mhz don't add price that much at the price we are looking at in the first place... xD

Okay the oddest thing in the PC ^^ the story, So to call Family laptop is dieing and so to call mothers boyfriend is gonna buy a PC where he can play as much as NBA 2k12, 2k13, 2k14 and so on for the next few years main thing no more than 700£ Less = better in any case...Well I'm just gonna use the card that is going to be for him in the first place untill I pay off the finance...And in the mean time figure out which to get for myself...

Hard drives or solid drives? xD Okay 480GB = Programms ,apps ,games, a lot of games, more games, and well the rest, How much does Win 7 take anyway? Maybe It could work with 240GB then...
1TB storage drive obviously...

Big power supply just because I am gonna upgrade the video card to heck knows what and then after few years add some more and it never harms to have it bigger then you need...

As for the rest not sure about that, went for ultimate due to games, not sure if that changes anything...

Accessories Well for the time being I will be fine with those...Also I got ASUS VG278H monitor if anyone is wondering...

One thing BTW about that family NBA themed PC...How that should look like? i5 Q? just for long live part?

Sorry if you could not understand what I am all about, that happens a lot...

Presuming you're taking about the OS here, the only difference that ultimate would make would be that it will allow you to add more RAM, since Win7 Home Premium is limited to 16GB, apart from that it would make no difference to gaming whatsoever.

Noting that at the moment you certainly do not need more than that, but obviously in 5-10 years your guess is as good as mine as to how much RAM will be needed :)

Cant understand why anyone would put a gt 640 in a such a powerful rig like that ?
The mobo and cpu will be bottlenecked by it and anything with a 670 will cream it on games.
You would be much wiser spending your money on an i7 3770 with a GTX670 to back it up and that alone will last you 3 years and then you could add another 670 and SLI to cope with whatever games come out later on.

Drop the ssd to 120gb, you have a secondary 1tb drive, why a 480gb primary drive then, by the rate ssd are falling you would be better getting a small ssd and then upgrading it later on for next to nothing compared with a 480gb now. go windows 7 professional, no point in paying the extra for ultimate.

I did fall off my chair when I got to the GT 640 :p

Somehow I'm not too surprised at this one lol. You're literally typing your thought process.

I'd leave about 70-80GB for W7, updates and programs. If you have lots of apps that'll be more. Get a better GPU now, you're not gonna go very far with a GT 640. Unless you're planning on adding it in the other PC? Dunno you kinda lost me at the mother's BF part :p

I was thinking of using the 640 until I get some more money and then upgrade to a bigger one...I could use a PC...

If money is an issue then I've no idea why you are wanting the spec you have chosen. There's plenty of stuff there that will make basically no difference to gaming but adds a lot to the cost.

The i7-3960X processor being the most obvious example - its fractionally faster than the i7-3930k but costs a whole lot more. And both of them are basically no better than an i5 for gaming.

Buying a high end PC to last for 5+ years is never going to be cost effective. By the end of 5 years they will be struggling however much you spend. After 10 years any PC will be hopeless for anything beyond very basic functionality. Better to spend half or a third of the amount and buy every 3-4 years.

It's not the problem in money, but time till I get the money... xD

Well, but okay I can take it up, I am a fool...

So I'm still going for i7 just cause I don't yet know if I am going to record videos or not, that and 3770k is RAW Power!

I still want to install games on system drive so 240...

2 x gtx 680 2gb would perform better than 1 gtx 690 and it is also a cheaper option.

Also I'd get a Sabretooth or a P8Z77-V PRO mobo instead of the Maximus cuz it's a mini-ATX board which means that you'll get less PCI and PCIe ports.

2x 680 takes 2 slots, 2x 680 makes a lot more heat, if disaster happens no room for another 680...That and it's not cheaper it's about the same...more power drain than 690...also it's only slightly better than 690...

690 runs much, much cooler...Future proof for another one...Well so on and on...

I chose this mobo because of the Lan port that will do it's job sufficient and the onboard sound card isn't bad aswel now if the Lan works as it is supposed to I will be fine no need for any other slot then, if as I said future holds even much more demanding games I will add another 690 hence the 1050W PSU...

As to soundcard, Getting a external one anyway...

Looking at the configurator it is cheaper to get 2 x GTX 680 as opposed to 1 GTX 690 (more than £100 difference)
A lot more heat? From reviews the difference in temperatures on full load varies from 4'C to 7'C depending on the source.

I would check out if there are any 690's available as 2 x 670's will perform just as good for a lot less money.
I doubt you will have a disaster but if there was thats what a warranty is for.

As Ruben has said they are not especially cooler really! Although in my opinion they look cooler (I would think that though)! Also the more demanding games will be a ways off I don't think there are many games out there that particularly tax 1 690 let alone 2!

Aye I had to change my original order with PCS to a different graphics card as the 690 was not in stock! Could be different now though, a quick phone call would sort that out!

By the disaster I meant a really, really, really demanding games to come out...Just more room for another card, you know if I add 2 670 or 680 I have no slots remaining...So 690 is more better for that matter...As I said not that I am going to run and upgrade it anytime soon, that's just in case...Well might of overlooked at the degrees...

Agree, the GTX 690 is beatifully designed and offers an excellent performance but when there is the choice of a GTX 670 SLI for a very close performance and a significant cheaper price then you may want to reconsider what you are choosing. By the time games are demanding GTX 690 in SLI you may need to upgrade your whole system.

Almost sound hypocritical but ^^ Yes to that. If you have the money to spend, its certainly an option but if you are trying to optimise your system on a budget it will be no loss to have the 670 in SLI

Not on a budget just trying to get it simple...SLi isn't really simple Well in any case prefer 1 card instead of 2...That to think of it Maybe I should get Sabertooth just to get a little extra cooling...add a killer network card and I should be fine, Shouldn't I?

The GTX 690 is two 680s in SLI :)
