Download contains a virus and has been deleted

Hi,
I'm trying to set up my new desktop PC but every time I try to download anything I get a message 'download contains a virus and has been deleted'. Any ideas on how to fix this please?

Order no 1769663, brand new, came with Bullguard which I uninstalled after issue occurred, now only have Windows defender and Malwarebytes. I managed to download that in safe mode but it doesn't help.

Also. don't know if it's significant but when the PC was trying to do Windows updates, I got a message saying 'your pc has encountered a problem and will restart' about 5 times before I gave up.

It sounds as though your Windows system has become corrupted. I would seriously consider a clean install from bootable media.
