Drivers when ordering without a GPU

Hi guys, I initially ordered with a 3080 but decided to just try and source one myself and have the build delivered much sooner. Long story short, the build is coming this tuesday and I have a 1080ti in my old build which I intend to put in it. I was wondering if PC specialist were testing the system and may have used an AMD card(installing AMD drivers) .Could this cause an issue with booting into windows or will I just have to run DDU when I get it if thats the case?

Not 100% sure. If you drop your specs we could have a better idea about your overall build and advise accordingly, rather than guessing if you have OS included etc. (which makes a difference).

PCS will use a GPU to test obviously, could be anything at all, but will likely leave drivers installed.

It would be wise to install DDU when you get the system and wipe any existing GPU drivers before installing your GPU.

Yes that was what I assumed but with the 5800x not having integrated graphics I will have to install the card to be able to download DDU etc?

Yes, I meant install the card, then use DDU to scrub any existing GPU drivers, DDU will ask you to reboot, then install the relevant drivers direct from NVidia.

While we are talking about DDU, im always a little concerned i'm going to wipe something I shouldnt.
It mentions using safe mode, which I know youve said before you dont need to, its more the other options it has to remove stuff, its not just Nvidia but shows AMD chipset stuff too..

Is there anywhere that gives a step by step that would be useful?
Its one of those programs Ive heard about several times, just never actually used myself...

I was gonna do a guide and make it a sticky actually and completely forgot about it, I'll do that now and post a link (y)

Thanks for the help mate
Just additional, there is an option in DDU to clean and fully shutdown rather than restarting.

This is what you want, when it shuts down, turn off the power switch at the PSU or the wall but leave it plugged into the wall (this keeps the case and internals grounded) and install your new card, then boot it when ready and install drivers.

The link for DDU guide is here if you need it: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/foru...aller-to-fully-remove-graphics-drivers.79324/

Hi guys, my build just came in today and long story short I was transferring my old gpu into the case and I noticed PC specialist have only filtered one pcie cable for me to attach. The cable splits into two at the end( as in two seperate 6+2 pin connectors). I am paranoid I may be damaging my hardware and especially if I got a new 3000 series card. The way the iCue 5000x case is designed its basically impossible to access the power supply with all the cables installed for cpu/motherboard etc. I am not really comfortable with taking out the power supply etc. I am looking for peace of mind or should I send it back and ask them to install some extra pcie cables? Also, its a corsair rm850x power supply.

Thanks in advance

If you've got an RMx PSU, then you want to run 2 individual PCIe cables to the card, not one to a splitter as that could cause stability issues and even burn out the PSU / GPU

I wouldn't send it back though, it's just a case of removing the opposite side of the case, you may need to remove the drive bay first before working on it:

Thank you for the reply. I have 3 corsair 120mm fans on that panel so would I have to take them out as well? The drive bay is a big part of the problem so removing it should allow me to get it in even from the front side of the case.

You can’t access anything from the normal side of the case because of the PSU shroud?

the fans are a separate area, shouldn’t need to touch them.

When you open the back door of the case the space between the psu and the drive bay is completely filled with the cables that are already in. It is impossible for me to get at the port to plug in the pcie unless I am missing something here? Thats why I mentioned the fans at the side as I think thats about the only way for me to gain access.

Think you just need to slide out the drive bay, that gives you access to the PSU.
