(Dual setup) - Monitor keeps going 'black'

Hi all,

I've had my PCS laptop for 2.5 years now. Always worked fine - with the exception of the wi fi card losing the connection every now and again (so I have to switch to ethernet).

However for the last few months - and happening much more regularly now - is my second monitor will just cut out. It goes completely black for a few seconds - sometimes minutes. I finally gave in and bought a new monitor in the hope that it was the monitor that had the issue - but sadly it's doing it on the new monitor too.

So clearly something is wrong with my laptop - any ideas? I've changed HDMI cable as well to check that (same issue). The issue did seem to get better a month or so ago, when the problem stopped happening for about a month - but for the last week or so it's started again.

Thanks

Matt

ANd just to add to this - sometimes a message pops up saying 'no signal detected' (after it's gone black) but also if you have the menu options up (on the monitor - using the buttons) - that also disappears. It fully goes black if you see what I mean.

If the monitor's OSD doesn't display, that is a monitor fault, as that input does not come from any device connected to it.

When was the last time you opened it up, cleaned it out and repasted

Not opened it up in a year or so - wouldn't have the confidence to paste it though! Only get rid of dust etc.

It's the new monitor which doesn't display the OSD though - and the old one too?
