Elimina 17" - WHEA logger event 17 warnings

I'm having issues with event ID 17 warning spamming in my event viewer. I first noticed it from HWinfo as it was capturing the errors at the bottom.

I have found the problematic device in device manager (see screenshot) and tried to get windows to automatically update the driver but it says it has the latest version already.

It doesn't result in a crash and windows seems to recover but it happens a few times per minute.

Changing the power saving setting for the PCI express seems to stop the warnings arising. Should I be worried about this and try and fix it, or are the warnings safe to ignore, as they are not actually causing any crashes and changing the PCI express power saving settings seams to resolve the problem?

Annoyingly for some reason my power settings "forget" I have turned PCI Express power savings off and revert back to the problematic setting after I have shut down and restarted. Any idea why that would happen?

Thanks for the suggestion. There were 3 updates suggested (per screenshot attached). I've installed the WiFi device and bluetooth ones. Updating these two hasn't stopped the event 17 issue.

Unsure about the UHD graphics driver as it mentions it will overwrite the OEM provider graphics driver? Should I go ahead and install that too?

Yes, install them all.

Can you take a screenshot of your device manager?

If you go into Device Manager in Windows, then change the view to "by connection type" and shuffle through all the PCI Express Root Port, post what's included in that.

Please find attached. The offending Root Port is #15 - 06b6 so perhaps the issue is with either the PCIE Card Reader or the GbE controller? I think the latter is the LAN connector?

Yep, you’re right.
Both Realtek which would make sense.

Just before we proceed, which version of windows are you on? Some devices have been shipped missing the H2 update, just wondering if that’s been applied yet?

Can you get the hardware ID's of both those devices and we'll look for an up to date driver for them.

It's possible windows update / the supplied driver is out of date.

There was an issue recently with H2 causing issues with some realtek drivers, so it's quite likely related to that.

Getting there though :)

When it comes to hardware ID's like this, there's a site called DeviceHunt where you can enter the vendor ID and device ID and it will tell you the device it relates to: https://devicehunt.com/view/type/pci/vendor/10EC/device/5287

So then we can google the RTL8411b PCI Express Card Reader (it brings up realtek.cz which is NOT the official domain), went to realteks known website and looked for that device under drivers:


That install appears to address both devices, so should sort it hopefully. There's also a very recent update at the end of february. My guess is windows update hasn't got the latest version in the catalogue yet.

Unfortunately the issue is back today. Suspecting it is actually the card reader causing the problem I disabled it and this has stopped the hardware warnings arising.

I can't find any updated drivers for this so will just leave the card reader disabled for now (hardly ever use it anyway) until Realtek release some fixed drivers.

Has anyone been able to find a resolution to this issue? I had it since I had my laptop but lived with it assuming it was a windows issue but I have recently upgraded to Windows 11 and the identical problem is back. I've disabled my card reader for now (I dont think I have ever used it) but it would be nice to have a resolution.

I had previously installed the above driver but the issue remains.

I’ve not looked into it since these posts as in practice I never use the card reader.

Have you tried following the steps in the earlier posts to see if Realtek have released an updated driver that fixes the issue?
