Ethernet Issues Connecting To Internet

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help.

I got my new PCSpecialist desktop about a month ago and it has been working absolutely fine connected to the router with an ethernet cable. Good connection, good speed and no issues at all. Then a couple of days ago, it was intermittantly connecting to the internet - was connecting to the network but not the internet.

My partner has a laptop and it's been connecting via Wifi no problems at all. So I switched my desktop to using Wifi and it works but not great - again intermittantly.

My desktop is currently saying the ethernet connecting is "Unidentified Network - No Network" but I am connected via Wifi.

When I run the the Windows Network Troubleshooter, it fixed the problem for about 10 minutes then same issue again. The problem was "Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration"

Thanks!

The aerials that came attached to the desktop are still attached, yeah. The desktop is less than a metre away from the router.

I'd rather use the Ethernet connection as I had been though.
Can you post your full specs from the order page?

Can you also post a screenshot of your network adapters page?

Have you tried using a different cable to rule that out?
Something else to try is to open Device Manager, uninstall the network card, restart the PC and let it reinstall. Also check you have the latest drivers for it, but installing all optional updates under Windows Update.

Edit: The other thing I would try is to change your DNS server to Google's, your lack of internet access could be due to a DNS issue.

Yeah, one of the first things I did.

Also done a Network Reset.

Ethernet has now gone this morning so only an intermittant connection :

Can you upload a screenshot of your option updates in Windows update?

When you say ethernet has gone, has the adapter gone from device manager or just the network has disappeared?

As @Martinr36 says, if WiFi is working, you know it's likely related to the cable.

The adaptor is still on the Device Manager but yeah, the network has disappeared. I can connect via Wifi but the connection isn't stable and intermittantly cuts out. My work laptop is also connected to the Wifi and absolutely no problem - steady connection.

Remove/uninstall the adapter from Device Manager, then restart the PC. The adapter should be detected and reinstalled by Windows.

Assuming that happens as expected, with the cable connected, open a command prompt and enter "ping 8.8.8.8" and post results please?

Mine actually shows that exact same optional update (which I am ignoring) as well and mine is def not a Xeon btw (mines still def a 9700k)
Ah, ok, is this some weird bug in Windows update?

I wonder if some recent update has caused issues with network cards. I know there was a recent issue like that that affected Realtek network chips.

Uninstalled the non-Wirless adapter and restarted. As expected, it reinstalled on a restart.

Anything that can be done if this is the issue? Uninstall recent updates somehow?

This would indicate that the PC is actually connected to the internet via the ethernet (I assume wifi is off), so if it's showing the "No internet" message, I'd reckon issue with DNS, so update the DNS servers as mentioned earlier and see if that works.

It always connects via ethernet upon a restart but then drops after a couple of minutes.

Following the uninstall and restart, it has stayed connected ever since. So (don't speak too soon) but maybe that has fixed it?
