Excited about my new build - any thoughts?

I know it's overpowered for what I need it for (gaming, family workhorse, streaming, web work, etc.) but it's been 10 years since I last bought a new PC (also from PC Specialist!) so I wanted to make it worth getting excited about. ;-)
Hoping for very fast load times and high level 1080p gaming. Have a 4Tb HDD (less than 18 months old) to move from current PC to this build, hence relatively small storage.

Should be good for another ten years, with a few judicious upgrades through that time, I hope.
But have I gone completely over the top here?

What is the budget? For 1080p gaming it's huge overkill on the GPU front. What monitor are you pairing the system with? What games are you interested in?

There are a number of changes to be made but need to know the above first :)

What did it come too and whats your budget.?

I'm wondering if it could be rebalanced a bit to get you a 1440 144hz machine

I'd recommend the 5700 XT over the 2060 Super if you're considering 1440p 144hz gaming, the benchmark results are exceptional for 1440p/144hz on the 5700 XT gpu, you also get 2GB more dedicated memory in the GPU. I would also consider going for a higher watt PSU as it future proofs you for any potential upgrades.

Hi all,

Budget was supposed to be sub-£1200, but PCS GPU prices seemed so good I decided to splurge on upgrading my GeForce GTX 1050 Ti now.

System cost with GPU is almost dead-on £1500. If the wife finds out, I'm a dead man!

It's only the regular 2060, not the Super. Plus, monitor is 1080, so wasn't considering 1440. Would like to have ray tracing, but is 1440p/144Hz possible? Could update monitor in future...

PSU is 100W over the spec, so have some wriggle room there...
Noise is VERY important, so looking for quietest possible build.

Thanks for the responses! :)

Monitor is a 1080p 60Hz AOC - nothing special.
Games right now are Doom Eternal, Nazi Zombies 4, some Minecraft and Fortnite...

The PSU is a bit high but it usually has a 750W in the spec but the config won't allow it as they are currently out of stock. As for buying the build, it depends what "could update monitor in future" would look like time-wise...if it's a month or two then sure but, if you are thinking next year or beyond, then may not be worth it.

Yeah, it's only a possible monitor update, and would be towards the end of this year, if at all.
As I say, important this build is QUIET (for various reasons), hence the COOLERMASTER SILENCIO S600 and the Corsair 550W PSU.

Interested why you've added the HDD - I have a 4TB HDD for all document and media storage, and a 480Gb SSD (which I forgot to mention) for games - I'm planning to add both of them into this build.

As for CPU, I went top-spec to future-proof for many years (current build has a Core i7 320, which was insane when I bought it back in 2010, but never regretted buying. Ryzen 5 feels a little...small?

This would be as quiet a system as you could get. I think the 3900 would be overkill to be honest. Less peak frequency too, for gaming, so I would drop that down to the 3800X which is a powerhouse of a CPU. There's no point in going OTT with the GPU, the 1660 Super has your monitor covered. If you do decide to upgrade in a year or 2, upgrade the GPU to match whichever level of gaming you want at that time. Everything in this build would support any level of gaming or upgrading you want to have in the future.

Hi Scott,

I think you're right. :) Have taken your advice and switched to the 3800X and the 1660 Super. Had to stick with the original case as your suggestion won't accommodate a DVD drive, which I need.

Thanks for taking the time and trouble to recommend for me!

Best,
Stu
