Hi all,

Looking for feedback on my first custom configuration, finally having settled down so ready to make the switch from laptops. I had a friend guide me through but I'm fairly new. I haven't placed this order yet but would like to do so today!

Monitor is currently a 24" HP Omen 144hz 1080p. Am considering demoting this to second monitor in future in favour of a 1440p/144hz.

Primary use would be gaming. Playing a big variety of games from Valheim to Minecraft to PUBG.

The budget ideally is sub £1350.00

This is what I would be aiming at, I've changed your storage it was a bit strange on the set up. Went with the 980 Pro for the OS which will be lightening quick and a 1TB M2 for the games. You can add more storage if you like, I've also upped the PSU to give you a real strong power supply that will last a life time. You'll be able to add any GPU you like for the foreseeable future and this should have enough power to let do so. Changed the motherboard because you had a Wifi card and Wifi enabled motherboard. So I dropped the motherboard Wifi and stuck with the AX200 it offers 5G band and Bluetooth. I've also included for a CPU cooler that will keep that thing nice and cool no problem, it'll extend the life of the CPU and let it run to it's capacity better

Hi Steveyg,

That looks great thank you. As mentioned, I'm on a bit of a budget and ideally would keep this build under £1350. Would you say that beefing up the cooler/PSU would be a priority over the storage change?

I'm not sure why there was a WiFi adapter and WiFi motherboard on there, I don't remember adding the former. In comparison between the two options would you say standard mobo + AX200 is a notable upgrade from the Wifi enabled mobo?

To keep it under £1350 I've went for a different case and dropped the GPU. The 1660 is fine for 1080p but the GPU is the place I would make the compromise, mostly because it's the part you will change the most, it can be upgraded and replaced later

Hi guys, thanks for the feedback on the build. I'll certainly look in to beefing up the Cooler + PSU, they were probably the parts I was most unsure about. Perhaps I can stretch to £1400 and keep the 3060 :).

Ideally I would want 512GB for the OS drive. This could be achieved in budget by going for the PCS version, rather than the Samsung 980 PRO. This won’t be quite as fast, but is still a very fast drive and you will likely not see a great deal of difference in real world performance. If you had a bigger budget the Samsung 512GB would be an option, but I wouldn’t compromise other areas of the build to get it.

This is also a fantastic option but I'd always recommend the Silver warranty for a fiver

Was in the process of doing the same, ie changing the PSU, and then just spent 10 minutes trying to figure out why my build was £13 cheaper than Martin's. Finally worked out I had gone for the RM PSU as opposed to the RMX version :rolleyes:

The RMx is better, but whether you can justify that cost, is down to you. The RM is still a great psu and miles ahead of the CV

Oh I agree. At the time I was just trying to reduce the price for the OP and after seeing Martin's post I just wondered why his build was more expensive than mine, as I misread what PSU he had chosen ;)

Hi all,

I thought I should update after all the amazing help you guys gave me - I went ahead and ordered the build Ash supplied, albeit with a different motherboard (ROX STRIX B-550-F Gaming) as the TUF was out of stock. I also upgraded the RAM to 3600mhz and added in a wifi adapter as the new mobo didn't include one.

I'm on day 5 of pre-production now but will be sure to post once it's arrived!

Thank you to everyone who took time out of their day to help me realise my PC dreams!
