So it's getting pretty close now and I thought I would start a new thread with some various snips of information that I've been viewing.

From what I can understand, it's still going to require quite heavy duty hardware but that hardware will now garner you an even better experience than ever before. Most notably for me is the VR aspect where, straight from the horses mouth, they mentioned that it looks spectacular.

I'm really looking forward to this, especially with the mention that many of the improvements will be coming to the 2020 version. For 2024 there are many improvements but I think the main steer is going to be towards actual gameplay, which will be fantastic.

Is this an entirely new game? That's remarkably quick for a FS game! Usually it's like a few millennia.

Yeah it's a new game. The decision was made last year I believe. They wanted to make changes from the ground up so guess they had to justify the time with a new title.

It isn't necessarily a successor to FS2020 (well it is, but), it's more an enhanced version with a huge push towards gameplay and missions.

Most of the performance tweaks are likely to carry across so unless you're looking for something specific in FS2024 there's not much point in buying the new one really.

I will though, because I'm an idiot.

does look cool though, be interesting to see if the screenshots translate to real life gameplay

Getting close now.

Obviously wait until it's out but the multi-thread performance seems to be here at last. It's still going to be a torture test for any PC but at least if you're using some cores it may make the larger CPUs worth a punt. From reading around you absolutely don't need any more than 32GB, the 64GB suggestion came only for multi-tasking/streaming/etc/etc as confirmed by Asobo.

I will definitely be getting the game but will be sticking with my current RAM configuration. This may change as my 2025 upgrade plans are now a 9950X3D along with, likely, a 5080. Won't make much odds to throw in 64GB of RAM along with it, maybe something a bit quicker now too.

No mention of size of dump in the user profile this time round? I've been recommending anyone asking for an MSFS capable build to get a minimum of a 1Tb OS drive just to be on the safe side.

Not really any need to worry about that in honesty. It just needs configured. The OS drive doesn't matter as long as it's configured correctly. I have a dedicated FS2020 drive and the first time I installed it, the OS drive was HUGE but that was down to the fact that in the settings, the cache was configured to load into the Appdata. Just change that to the same install drive/folder and it's sorted. Same went for the installs of various freebies and world data. It was all auto configured to the AppData, takes 2 seconds to sort..... but you need to know that.

The cache is configurable too. The install looks like around the 9GB mark with everything else cloud based. Good and bad I guess. It's good that it saves a ton on the install & load times, but it's then tethered to the interweb. Not a big deal for most of us I guess but eyebrows are always raised with such an affair.
