Fnatic PC

Looks like it's https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/desktop-pcs/fnatic.

Can do a custom config so FPS will all depend on which options you go with unless you're planning on the base model @ £1,599?
Thanks for the reply. It will be the base model (£1599). My grandson is 10 this month and apparently the all important statistic is that it achieves more than 240fps!! I need to get him off my PC, which incidentally only manages 140fps.

The FPS will be limited by the screen, so even if the computer can put out 600fps, if the screen is only 60Hz (Hz = FPS), it will only display a maximum of 60fps.

If you're son has a 240Hz screen then obviously that's different.

I was looking at the Samsung CRG5(240htz) 27 inch
Cool, a lot of people don’t realise what FPS translates to on the monitor.

On fortnight chapter 2 at Epic quality you’d be averaging about 140fps with the 5700xt on the base model.

If you wanted 240hz, you’d really need a 2080ti which would put the budget up past £2k but that still wouldn’t get you 240hz.

240hz is considered professional and the idea is you lower settings to achieve the higher frame rates. Most competitive players will actually reduce resolution to 720p to achieve this.

Sorry, but I will have to show my ignorance here.
If the settings are lowered to 720p would the base Fnatic be likely to run at 240fps on a 240hz monitor, or am I mixing things up? Also with the settings adjusted.

Yes, if you adjust the settings you can easily achieve 240fps, that's the expectation if you're trying to achieve high framerates.

What I was saying is if he's expecting it to run on highest settings at 240Hz, there's no computer on the planet that could achieve that. So long as he understands he'd have to lower settings / resolution.

Hi Chris,

Honestly that machine with the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT Graphics will churn out over 150fps on 1080p high settings for fortnite. A 144hz screen to accompany it might be a nice touch for your grandson, but a 240hz screen would be overkill for a 10 year old. They are industry professional level screens.

Plus you wouldn't want to lower the settings to reach 240hz. Why lower the graphics to reach 240hz when 144hz is incredible enough?

Hope this helps.

I would personally agree.

It’s only a very small subsection of humans that can actually appreciate anything over about 120fps anyway.

144hz is amazing.

I've no doubt it's bragging rights. I've ordered the pc and my understanding is that he'll be able adjust the settings to suit. When I mentioned to him that he'd have to adjust the settings to achieve 240fps his response was 'of course I will have to!'
Well, I'm learning, even if he knows.
