Whichever option you want to go for, totally up to yourself. It's a compromise in performance/quality but if you're happy to do that to help with the budget then go for it. It's not incompatible :)
The Solidigm drives are really solid. Between them, the Corsairs and the Samsungs, there's not really a bad choice.

I was more meaning the 1 drive (eggs in one basket) solution, as opposed to the proposed dual drive solution :)

How much of a comprimise?

I don't know how to quantify it for you. There are many reasons to follow the advice. The only reason not to is budget. The quantity of that compromise comes down to how much you are saving and how significant it is to you.

With a sparce primary drive the system will run optimally
If there's a failure, you only lose one dataset, rather than everything.
With separate drives they have their own throughput channel, offering the best performance during game loading etc.
If there's an issue with Windows, the primary drive can be reset without having to re-download the games or backup any data.
You're reducing writes between both drives, giving more longevity.

Why is there always a budget! I will defiantly go with two drives, my question was a bit obscure, the compromise I meant was between the 1 To SOLIDIGM P41+ GEN 4 M.2 NVMe SSD PCIe and the 1 To SOLIDIGM P44 PRO GEN 4 M.2 NVMe SSD PCIe .
Also if I need a dvd/ blue ray writer/recorder would external one be as good as an internal? I would have to change the box, I have old games on cd I would like to load.

Thanks for all your contributions

The P44 is brilliant, one of the best drives there is going. (The raw numbers aren't necessarily as good as the 990 Pro, but the broader performance is and is often better.) The P41+ is merely very, very good.

In all likelihood, in a gaming system, you won't notice huge day-to-day differences with currently technology. The faster drive will be an advantage in high-throughout activities, but it might be hard to quantify. It's possible that games will take advantage of faster drives in the next few years, but it's unclear how much difference it will really make.

I had suggested the MP600 from Corsair as it's both cheaper and the endurance of the drive is phenomenal. I think it's the best value right now. It's not the quickest but it's a great drive for the cash.

I only recommended steering clear of the PCS drive, the Solid drives are great value too. From there you had suggested you wanted a conventional mechanical drive, which is where things seemed to start going round in circles.

500GB primary - Dealers choice but we would recommend something in the higher end of performance.
1-2TB primary - Again, dealers choice but we would recommend something middle range with good endurance.

Oh, USB 3.0 DVD-RW drives are absolutely fine for loading those games you're after. A suggestion would be to rip them to ISO on the PC itself so that you can keep them digitally. Windows has an in-built virtual drive ability for iso's and the likes.

Hi all, this the final change, I don't think I can do any better for the money, I have dropped power supply to 850 from 1000 which is still overrated according to the check, "650 is ok". Got the dvd external and monitor on the quote, before I press the order anything I missed or can change for the budget?

And a big thanks for all the input, I wouldn't have got this far without your help, "THANKS"
Gary.

850 will limit you, ignore the notification, it's applying rhat to your current requirements but you're building the pc to requirements over 7 to 10 years. 1000 os really the minimum to support gpu upgrades.

Again, you're making changes without really understanding why. If you want to opt for the 850w to save a few quid then this is your choice. Understand that if you want to upgrade the system past the safe limit of 850w you'll need to upgrade the PSU at the same time. You will pay full price for the PSU (around £200) and have the added hassle of having to replace it yourself.

The reasoning behind 1000w right now is it's one and done. You shouldn't need to upgrade any of the main platform throughout the life of the build (As above, ITRO 10 years). You would simply upgrade the GPU and potentially the CPU as required.

All up to yourself though as you're in charge of the purse strings. I just wouldn't make changes without fully understanding what you are doing.
