Gaming & Streaming - Good setup or overkill?

Hi guys,

I'm looking to buy a new system which will be for work (nothing more than Microsoft apps, maybe some video editing) and to play and stream retro (my consoles are connected to a multi-SCART switcher which is in turn connected to an HDMI convertor which will connect to the capture card) and cutting-edge games.

Will also require 2 monitors but haven't figured these out yet. I'm thinking a pair of 24"ers?

Does this look about right?

Dropped the above into PC Part Picker and all checked out apart from this flag:

" The Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS ATX AM4 Motherboard has an additional 4-pin ATX power connector but the Corsair TXM Gold 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply does not. This connector is used to supply additional 12V current to the motherboard. While the system will likely still run without it, higher current demands such as extreme overclocking or large video card current draws may require it."

This is a massive over-spend for your uses and the monitors you are considering. I wouldn't go with PC Part Picker. There is nothing in the config that won't be compatible with each other.

What is your entire budget for the PC and the Monitors? What is your desk space like? Would it fit 2x 27" monitors? (more apt for 1440p gaming, looking at the budget being spent).

I don't really have a budget in mind but obviously, if I can save money by toning things down a bit, that would be great. If I can keep it under £3000 with the monitors (and a new gaming chair) then I'd be happy.

As you can see in the picture, there would be room for two 27" monitors but I think that would just look huge. That's why I'm preferring 24".

Definitely need to nail down what you fancy for the monitors. If you really want 24" then I don't think 1440p would be a good choice, it would be better for 1080p (cheaper and requires less GPU power anyway.... so possibly win win).

The other thing to possibly consider would be a UWQHD monitor. This would be a single monitor in place of 2 monitors. There are a couple of downfalls here though. Retro games would be unlikely to utilise the resolution and aspect ratio, you wouldn't have a second screen for using while in full screen mode.

If you're definitely in for 2x 24" 1080p monitors then we can start to build a rig. Let me know :D

That is the plan Nursemorph and I like that idea. The only thing that put me off was simply aesthetics, but you're right, I don't *need* a 27" screen for streaming.

I've actually got an old 2560 x 1440 27" Dell monitor which I'm using right now on my old setup. Perhaps I can purchase the computer without monitors and see how I go with this (and maybe a 24" borrowed from work) before I decide on new monitors.

Scott, I'm not really a fan of those ultra wide monitors. Let's say that I'm going to go with the above suggestion. A 27" 1440p for the main and a 24" for secondary use :)

Thanks Scott! I'll take a look at that, compare it with me and come up with something a bit less pricey :)
