GPU Price increases...

Hi all,

I've watched a couple of YT videos recently about GPU prices all going up (I'm sure some of you have too). So it got me wondering because of the current stock situation. End of Nov 2020 I ordered a new build from PCS which includes a 5900x and a 3080. Like many of you I'm waiting for the stock to come into PCS for these. However I've paid for my build 100% and owe nothing.

So will PCS honour the price I paid...? Especially since it's all paid for.

I want to say "This will stop people from buying out all the GPU's"

But the reality is, it won't. The people who buy out tons of GPU's are Likely Miners or Scalpers.

The scalpers who still have stock from their initial large scale buyouts can just mark their products up even higher or even just turn them over faster due to closer MSRP.
The cards will still be sold out, and future normal customers will need to spend more of their hard earned money.

This is the type of stuff that makes me wish I was rich as hell and just start giving stuff away. But I guess that is also why I'm not rich as hell lol.

You enter into a financial contract at the point you purchase. It’s standard with any purchase in a shop or online. The receipt is the contract of purchase which is always time and date stamped.

I thought this would be the case, but not been in a situation like this to be 100% sure, thanks. It's a good warning now to everyone else, who might switch to the 3090, then when stock comes in, switch back to a 3080 etc.... they might find that it will now cost more for switching, because switching back would cost the price of the new card on PCS store, since they change their prices too.

Just for anyone else reading, in times like this where prices are volatile, if you're still wondering about buying, it's worth drawing up a quotation in the configurator. That will freeze the price for 5 days I believe, so even if prices rise in the configurator, PCS would honour the price of the quotation for 5 days after it's generated.

Worthwhile doing if you're not 100% sure on the specs.

Now that’s an incredible bit of info! Casting my mind back, I wonder if that’s the reason I only had a £6 difference between the 3700X and 3800X way back when I ordered mine. Thank you for highlighting that to the forum 👍👍👍

Furthermore, just to answer a question @AlaMid raised which I'd missed.

Yes, if you were to amend a component after putting an order in, you would pay the cost of that component at the time you made the amendment, not the cost it was when you first put the order in.

That contract includes the terms and conditions set out in the website (https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/terms/) in which it states:

3.2
Prices are liable to change at any time, but changes will not affect orders in respect of which we have already sent you an Order Confirmation.

But also states:

3.7
If an error in our pricing is found, we will inform you as soon as possible by telephone or email and offer you the option of reconfirming your order at the correct price or cancelling your order. If you cancel, we will refund or re-credit you for any sum that has been paid by you or debited from your credit/debit card for the goods. If you do not reconfirm or cancel your order within 3 working days of notification we will assume that you wish to cancel your order and your order will be cancelled by us.

However 3.7 is only errors not changes in prices.

There is this prospective get out by PCS if they feel they cannot now source a product / source at the price they need to to fulfil order:

2.2
Any order that you place with us is subject to product availability and acceptance by us. When you place your order online we will send you an email confirming your order (the Order Confirmation). If the Goods are not available we will contact you by telephone or email and offer you an alternative Product or the option of cancelling your order.

Its not really a get out, it’s just common sense.

it also works both ways.

For example, they discover a new fault with RTX 3080 (cough...) which stops production for 6 months.

The customer would then have option of 3070, 3090 or cancel, the 3070 would be price reduction, the 3090 a price increase.

Had similar when buying new cars and been specced high level parts but with price change.

Organisations will absorb some costs (mark up management) but some can not be absorbed.


Admittedly Audi had a car rejected by me for down grading a part and not informing me (even though they reduced price).

my eternal struggle is back was going to leave it till march to put a order in but is it better to do it now sooner then later :0 ? i mean the rog strix has gone up another £100 it used to be around £100 more then the standard 3080 now its £200 which is not worth it

All depends on whenever or not you think the market will settle down by then. It will get to it’s peak at some point but then it’s anyone’s guess how long it will take to get back to normality.

Yeah apologies. Just me wording it quickly and cutting and pasting on my iPhone - didn’t mean it as a “get out”, it is a standard “can’t fulfil fully” clause you find anywhere.

Just wanted to point out a full reply to OP that the price won’t change, but...
