Hard drive problem

So for the past week i have been hearing a clicking noise coming from inside pc, done some google searches and see its my hard drive. So im assuming it will be my D: drive since its mechanical, the pc is not even 10months old and this clicking noise is driving me mad! It prevents me from doing certain things, the pc freezes up when i hear it in action like its trying to do something but cant. I rarely use this D drive for anything other than storage can. What are the warranties on HDD ?
thanks

That sounds ominous, no time like the present to make sure you have a valid backup.

HHD's typically have 3-5 year warranties.

Is it a system from PCS? It definitely sounds like the HDD is about to fail. Clicking is normal during read/write operation but it shouldn't sound like a watch ticking, as that's it trying to read the platter and failing.

If it's from PCS, just get in contact and see what they say. They may just send you out a drive to swap out. Be sure to back up anything that you need ASAP though, the drive is likely on the way out.

If this is a PCS machine then I think that it would be covered under the warranty that you have purchased at the time of your order - as its under a year old, then get in touch with them now to arrange an RMA to look at it.

If you're happy with swapping the drive out it's likely they will ship you an advanced replacement. Basically they send you a drive with a box to put the old one in and return. You'll likely need to pay postage, as you opted for the standard warranty, but it's better than having to ship the PC back :)

yeah more than happy to do so. As long as my drive works fine i dont mind

Just as a heads up, the queue times for support are very long at the moment. If you call, you may be on hold for over an hour (depends when you call, might get lucky). If you have emailed, it's currently taking around 7 working days for a response.

I'm not sure if the webchat is for sales only, but might be worth sending a message on there to see what sort of response you get.

Comms is a nightmare at the moment unfortunately.

Great shout, I always forget about SMART. CrystalDiskInfo was pretty good for breaking that info down, not sure if the in-built Windows option (command prompt?)

I always use CrystalDisk, I don't believe there is a native Windows command or tool.

Wouldnt the postage cost almost as much as a new drive if its HDD?
I think its was about £35 quid or so via DPD.
