Having to disable Intel graphics card to stop screen random blackouts

Hi all my gaming laptop/notebook was working perfectly until windows 2004 upgrade. Then the screen started going black for a second every few minutes. Contacted Intel Customer Support and was told to disable the UHD Intel 630 in order to not create conflict with the dedicated card, in this case a Nvidea MX250. The laptop now works perfectly again with the 630 disabled and the driver deleted from device manager. I cannot roll back windows 2004 and can only hope there will be a fix in the future.

This is likely to be one of the numerous little niggles that happen when you allow Windows Update to upgrade to a new version. It should work for everyone, but any slight corruption in your existing Windows system or in any of the drivers can cause these kinds of issues.

I very much doubt there will ever be a fix because from Microsoft's point of view there isn't a problem, your issue was most likely caused by a corrupt or wrongly configured system that you upgraded from.

I would strongly suggest that your best (and probably only) way forward is to backup all your data, download a clean copy of 2004 via the media creation tool, and do a fully clean install from that bootable media. Nothing less will do I'm afraid.

Have you tried uninstalling the Intel graphics driver using DDU then installing a clean version?

I had a similar issue in the past with the Intel power saving features. It's possible that the upgrade has caused an update to the driver or something of that ilk and potentially caused an issue.

It's possibly a long shot but it's worth looking at as it saved me some problems a while back...

Firstly, enable your driver again and make sure it's up to date.

Then.....

Open the Intel Control Panel (You can normally access this by right clicking on your desktop)
Click on the Power option
If there are any power saving options enabled, disable them. For me it was Power Saving Technology or something like that. You can also re-visit and tweak the power plan as necessary. For a base line I would make everything maximum performance and take it from there.
Save, reboot.

Many thanks for all the prompt replies. I am not very good with computers and this laptop was a present in my retirement to have some gaming fun. This problem has now been resolved and if I can remember the sequence of events I will try to explain. I read as many old threads and FAQ`s as possible. A thread from a Moderator called Spydertracks explained to someone about reinstalling the VGA drivers from the Clevo website, when a machine has been reset, and a clean install of Windows has taken place. Windows cannot know the OEM VGA drivers, and these VGA drivers make the motherboard and graphics cards talk to each other. So without the OEM VGA drivers the Intel only drivers and the Nvidea drivers even though were the latest updates were in conflict and the motherboard went from one driver to the other making the machine unstable. So I reinstalled the Intel 630 UHD drivers from Intel online and rebooted, thanks BASTET for that little nugget of info. Next reinstalled the OEM VGA drivers from the Clevo website for the graphics card and rebooted. Next reinstalled the VGA drivers for the Nvidea through the Clevo website and rebooted. Updated the Nvidea drivers through Nvidea Experience and rebooted. Problem solved the graphics on my games has never looked so good. Problem now was the machine was getting too hot. Clevo Fanspeed App download and set the fans to max before the game starts and again problem solved. Much to learn but so pleased that this Forum has so many people ready to help others. Kudos to all Moderators. Scott Moderator I don`t have a Control Panel but have a Intel command centre but did not see any power saving, however this does not seem to have any effect so all is good.

I think you’re getting confused with relation to “Oem vga drivers”, I would never advise installing display drivers from Clevo, only direct through nvidia. You may be getting confused with the management driver like control center on clevo systems. That has nothing to do with graphics other than the fact it embeds into gpu drivers and almost any other driver.

can you post your full specs so we can see what we’re dealing with?

Hi Spydertracks new I wouldn`t remember how I resolved this issue, however my laptop works perfectly and I don`t want to change anything else. My drivers are all up to date and windows 2004 is stable. I don`t know any specs at all as this was a gift for my retirement. Sorry to use you as an example but whatever I did download from the Clevo website instantly on reboot resolved all issues. Take care and thanks for being their for people with problems. I wont post again so please don`t reply.
