HDD no longer initialising

Hi Tech Support,

I'm hoping someone can help me.

I have a PC Specialist custom built desktop PC, and recently I have lost a couple of partitions on a drive (I have a feeling its just the same drive that has decided to fail).

I have tried the usual things to try to recover the data/fix the drive, but its not worked. It keeps coming back with issues about the drive not initialising etc.

I am not sure whats happened. Not sure if its a BIOS issue or if there is a loose cable. I am weary of opening up the box in case I make things worse.

I have attached a screenshot. This shows the drive showing as not initialised. I'm very unsure about pressing the initialise disk box that comes up when i'm looking at the Computer Management, in case it wipes everything on the drive.

Any help would be great.

Many Thanks

Chris

Hey,

Depending on the age of the machine PCS could probably help with an RMA if you're not confident in rooting about inside yourself. Do you have the specs from your order page (on main PCS site)?

Most desktops now are very easy to access via the side panels etc. Push come to shove though if the drive is goosed you might need to replace it.

Is it both the HDD's that are showing as uninitialised?

That would be concerning, the fact they're showing in device manager means that they're being physically seen from being plugged into the motherboard through to being recognised in windows itself.

The fact they're uninitialised suggests they've been formatted.

So begs the question, what caused the format? If you're certain it's not something you've done, then I'd be suspecting some nefarious interference and would be investigating viruses.

But that's worst case scenario, first thing I would do is contact PCS and enquire about a BIOS update, they may well be able to do a remote session also, they may see something more obvious on the local device that points to the issue.
