HDD Odditys

Tonight, had to restart the PC through soft-reset quite a few times, as it was just getting stuck at Welcome, the spinning circle next to Welcome would stop spinning and nothing would load, then after 3rd restart and one safe mode that worked, I managed to get in, but 2-3mins later, it froze.

Another restart and i'm in, another shutdown restart and it froze on Welcome again, since then no more problems, however, the comp feels slower in certain tasks, opening certain things seem a tad sluggish.

Ran a diagnostic on the WD1002FAEX, it returned a pass, ran it on my WD10EAVS drive, it failed here:

Anyone know what all that error code means? and whether a slightly dodgy drive that ISNT the boot drive would still slow a comp down a bit and cause it to freeze?

After a bit more research on the subject, it would appear that this error code means the disc is on its way out :(

Oh dear Sleinous. I can't quite read the error but it doesn't sound too good. As we all know hard drives used mechanical parts and these can fail...:(

Run the test again to double check, and backup your data. If it fails the test we'll send you another HDD out tomorrow.

For the time being it is my WD10EAVS that seems to be dieing, so hopefully the drive I bought with my pc is still perfectly healthy :)

Tell me, is it possible for me to buy a second wd1002faex off you or not? and how much would this be? :)

Nah my startup is 1-2mins on average, as soon as desktop appears i can usually start working

A non boot drive can mess with you on startup as it is still being sought and mounted by windows, errors preventing this will cause a sluggish boot.

Is it possible to buy one off you?

Update: I'm now in safe mode :(

4 restarts, kept freezing at Windows with the little spinning circle, 3 of the restarts (first 3) i'd taken out the WD10EAVS but its still freezing, WD1002FAEX makes a little loader whirring noise than before, like, major disk activity for not much action.

I'm guessing it's time to phone lolz

Ok, also, i'd rather not have to re-install Windows if possible as i'm gonna lose all my savegames then >.< I think you mentioned a way of making an identical copy of my HDD (all of Windows, all hidden subcategories, etc etc etc) as an image or something?

Right, just done a full Winsows reinstall, installed everything I use one at a time, it loaded fine each time, UNTIL I installed my GTX 470 drivers, then, back to the efusal to get past the Windows logon screen :/

Uninstalling the driver now (in safe mode) and restarting to see if I can get back in again.
