Help for a pc gaming noob please šŸ™

Being a console gamer all my life (now mid 30s) I'm looking at finally making the jump over to a gaming pc but I have very limited tech knowledge if any at all šŸ™ˆ.

I'm looking for something that will last but has the ability to be upgraded down the road as the tech improves.

I've listed specs that I like the sound of below, (I ideally would like 4tb for games but 2tb would be sufficient)but I have a few questions.

I currently use a Samsung Odyssey G5 (LC32G55TQWUXEN) Quad HD 32" curved LED gaming monitor , which I believe is 144hz with a response time of 1ms. Will this be sufficient or will I need a new monitor? If so what suggestions may you have (Ā£500 rough ballpark)

I read that 2 drives are recommended 1 for Windows and the other for your games, how much memory is needed for the windows and at what speeds are recommended.

Build looks spot on, the only thing I would consider would be the 1200w PSU. Not because you need 1200w but because it is an ATX3.1 compliant PSU (Current standard). Most other ones are the previous generation and don't have future use in mind.

With regards to the monitor, it's a decent enough monitor but with a Ā£500 additional budget it would be worthwhile considering a new one. Either that or reduce the GPU as you won't require a 4080 for anything outside of 4k (or super ultrawide). The 4070 Ti Super would be a very strong GPU for 1440p.

Hey Scott thanks for your reply.
I've slightly changed the specs, can you have another look please.

I changed the cooler for 1 that has a LCD I like the idea of having the temperatures on it.

I've changed the power supply to the one you suggested.

I've changed the 2tb ssd to the specs of the 512gb one, I'm assuming the 2tb would be used for games so would need better read and write speeds.

I've added Keyboard and mouse also as I don't have any.

Do you have any recommendations for a 4k monitor in my rough price range?

I've come across this MSIMAG 321CUP 31.5 inch, 4K UHD, 160Hz, AMD Freesync Premium Curved Gaming Monitor for around Ā£400.

as mentioned at the beginning of my thread I'm not very tech savvy so not sure on the monitor or change of spec.

You don't really need the additional read/write speed on the second SSD. It's a luxury, if you're happy to pay for it then by all means. The thing with these M2 drives that we recommend is they are blistering fast even at the more budget end. The P41 if you look at the read/write speed is still silly fast. You're looking at a difference if split seconds in loads, a second or 2 at the absolute most. It's not going to be a noticeable quality of life upgrade.

I would have a look at the 5000X case if you're looking for a pretty build. LCD cooler is fine, the only thing you lose is the Link connectivity. The best of both worlds is to get the Link cooler and purchase the modular LCD screen directly from Corsair. You can then attach the screen to the link setup and have it all.

For the monitor, something like the below would be good. I'm a fan of ultrawide though so I would probably go for something different.

So the original build is the better of the 2 (obviously with the 1200 power supply)I've posted and get the lcd screen from corsair directly?

How easy is it to connect yourself?

I'm not overly fussed about the case aslong as it has good airflow etc.

I'll have a look at the 1st monitor suggesting thank you, think my wife would kill me if I got the other 1 šŸ¤£

To give you some idea how the above will look (ignore the GPU as it's a 4090 and yours may be a different brand and the motherboard won't have the white accents):

Looking at monitors is this 1 better than the one you shared? https://www.currys.co.uk/products/g...led-curved-gaming-monitor-black-10263060.html

You would need to check reviews but I would think not. It's a VA panel and has the same HDR output. You're paying for the extra size and curve on a lesser panel quality.

Ideally you would want HDR1000, but they're slim pickings at this budget, I couldn't find any.

Thanks mate I'll have to look at the 28" you shared further up,I was a little concerned with going from a 32" to a 28" and my old eyes lol

Scaling has your eyes covered, it's pretty good nowadays. 32" is a fine shout for 4k though.

Which 1 out of these 2 is better guys (assuming either of them are what I need to make the most out of the rig)

I can get the gigabyte 1 for around Ā£520
And the asusrog 1 for around Ā£440
Price difference doesn't bother me too much I would rather the which ever is the better 1.

Thanks in advance guys

The Asus released at Ā£1000!!! Obviously technology has moved on incredibly quickly, but even so, the price reduction you're seeing on it is INSANELY good!

The asus is hdr 600 whereas the gigabyte is HDR 400 (but itā€™s actually even then only 350nits). HDR 600 is considered the minimum for true entry level HDR. Theyā€™re both fast IPS, but think the asus comes ahead in colour gamut

Fast IPS (Asus) is the same as Super Speed IPS (Gigabyte), it's just brand naming really between manufacturers, but they're all basically the latest gen IPS panels

I notice the asus is cheap brand new on amazon, just linking in case youā€™re looking at something with a reduced warranty (if itā€™s open box or ex display for instance) which may not be worth the saving.

But either way at those prices the ASUS is an absolute steal

Just relooking at this there isn't any extra fans should I add 1 for the rear?
