Help Need. 2 issues : Backlit Keyboard +Sound

Hi there-

I got my Viper 17.3" this week. Pre-installed with Windows 10.

First issue
The backlit keyboard. How do I get this to work ?
Other threads here are suggesting use of an app called 'Gaming Center'.
I don't have this installed, and i can't find it online. there is an "MSI Gaming Center" <- is this the one I must have?
I found something called 'Control Center 3'. This works, but each time you boot you have to reset it. No ideal, And it only has 1 option ON or OFF.

Side note: I noticed a lot of people complaining on this forum about this issue. One would think you'd have done something to make this more obvious for the customer. Disappointed.

2nd Issue.
Sound. The sound coming from this machine is hollow and tinny. I haven't heard sound this bad on a laptop for 10 years. Seriously, this is truly bad for a machine that costs over 2000 euros. What can be done about it?

Please help me resolve these issue. I am truly unhappy.

I rather think the answer there is 'very little'. The sound from most (all) PCS laptops is pretty bad, and especially so in thinner laptops because there's so little air volume behind them.

Hi - Thanks for the attempt to help. ( i was away yesterday )

I don't have a ''Tech Support" menu option on the website. In fact now it won't let me even log in to ''my account''. I've reset the password; and it says i'm locked out... but it allows me to log on to the forum with the same password. very frustrating.

Can you paste a URL here where I can download the Gaming Center at least ?

I have to admit- i'm am quite rudely shocked and surprised by this ... but then i guess it's the way things are these days.. once a company has your money , service is an afterthought.

I received a Recoil IV yesterday. The keyboard lighting was disabled in the BIOS for some reason, so that's a place to go and look. This actually broke Gaming Center, which was very weird. I've also had the lighting randomly turn off after a restart as well. Clearly there are still bugs that need to be ironed out.

At the top of the thread you told me to download and install the Gaming Center from the downloads page under my account. The list i showed you is what is available to me under my account. Hence my question... since none of those items are marked 'gaming center'.

Do you understand why i am angry and upset ?

This is the spec. Also Note : it specifies High Definition Audio. something that I DO NOT have. Can someone from PC Specialist please contact me directly ?

Live chat are probably overwhelmed with pre-sales questions at the moment. Try calling PCS, but again you might have a long wait in this emergency.

It's complete nonsense to say that once you bought something you are on your own, one of the strengths of PCS is their after sales service. However, you must surely be aware that in the current emergency they are stretched to their limit trying to fulfil the orders that they have, and with a reduced workforce because of the government guidelines.

That software has had several names over the years; hoteky, control center, gaming center. I suspect it might be the file labelled 07_CC30_W10.zip. The CC there may be control center, it's one of the few drivers that I don't immediately recognise in that list. Give that a try, if it's already installed then reinstalling it will do no harm.

Do you understand why i am angry and upset ?

I understand why you're upset certainly, all the software you need should have been installed because you bought a Windows license with it.

You have absolutely no reason to be angry, those of us who have tried to help you have been polite and as helpful as we can be. Anger never solved anything, it's a destructive emotion that does you way more harm than good. Who wants to help a person who is clearly angry? If you spoke to the live chat people in the passive aggressive way you post on here then I'm not at all surprised that they didn't want to help you.

This is the spec. Also Note : it specifies High Definition Audio. something that I DO NOT have.

The High Definition Audio is a feature on the motherboard, it's not related to the built-in speakers. If you connect decent external speakers you'll appreciate the high definition audio. TBH anyone buying a light and thin modern laptop and expecting quality sound from the built-in speakers is almost always going to be disappointed. There just isn't enough room for decent sized speakers and almost no volume behind them to provide quality sound. External speakers aren't expensive and they make a huge difference. You could even use Bluetooth speakers if you don't want wires.

Can someone from PC Specialist please contact me directly ?

Try installing the software in 07_CC30_W10.zip, that may well be the gaming/control center and should sort out your backlight problem.

PCS staff rarely visit here, and in the current emergency they almost never have the time to visit here. My advice is that you phone PCS and be prepared to be on hold for a long time, they are insanely busy at present. Once you get to speak to them please be calm and reasonable and explain your problems fully. Getting angry will do you absolutely no good at all I'm afraid.

You need GC30 (gaming center) and soundblaster (SBX) installing. Soundblaster will likely make quite a big improvement to the speaker sounds.

You may find that the download of soundblaster won't install correctly, if so follow @NorthDakota directions here to install:

Sound Blaster 6:
I became aware that when downloading Sound Blaster 6 Cinema from the drivers package on PCS itself that the software did not install or no boot/application/executable within the folder.
I decided to check out the driver disk in case anything was missing on the PCS folder. Turns out there is a section on the disk for 'preinstalled hardware'. When I found this I clicked through it and I found Sound Blaster 6 Cinema. Copied over the file on to a USB and read the 'readme' which advised how to install it. I then put the USB into the Nova and followed the instructions as stated on the readme. Then after a restart it loaded up and have had no issues since.
