Help needed. Gaming PC for my son

Hey @TonyCarter
This obviously came back into stock (7800X3D) and I missed it. Now not there till around the 20th November and my sons birthday is on the 28th. What would you think is a next best option?

What does the X3D offer?

Would you suggest either:
- AMD Ryzen 7 9700X Eight Core CPU
- AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D - more money though
No, it never came back into stock, it was just further delayed...and what we believe (based on internet conjecture) is that AMD is releasing the 9800X3D on the 7th November, and so the 7800X3D lines have been switched over to 9800X3D production.

Most of us have been through similar wait or not scenarios when building a new PC. For me is was when the 3000-series GPUs were announced at about the same time as the 5000-series CPUs - and things were going in & out of stock every day, so you tried to upgrade/downgrade to get your PC before Christmas (after a 3 month wait).

I was in that queue too. I ordered a 3080 and a 5900X in September. I was given a call a week or so before Christmas and told that I'd get it on Christmas Eve if I switched to the 5800X. I did that and it did arrive on time. It was incredibly frustrating watching the forum for news of new stock, but as Tony said, most of us have been there!

OK thanks. Not sure I understand the point that "The 7950X3D is just a 7800X3D + a 7700X"... All this is quite new to me.

You think the 9800X3D will be available on PC Specialist at the same time

The 7950X3D has 16 cores, but only 8 of them are ''X3D'', while the remaining 8 are conventional cores (like the 7700X).
Such 8 extra cores would provide no boost in-game.

Here's an explanation of the 3D V-cache technology.

Here are some games tested at 1440p on the 7800X3D.

You can most likely contact PCS directly and ask when they will put in a pre-order for this new chip.

Thanks @Ekans2011 @AccidentalDenz and the OG @TonyCarter

Have eventually managed to order the Build today, with the 9800X3D (which meant I blew my £2,000 budget, but thought sod it!).

Thanks for all the support in helping me pull together. I know it's for my son, but am sure I'm going to get involved in this too.
