Help! New RAM for my Octane IV (P775TM1) isn't working...

Hey, so my Octane IV came with 2x 8gb valueselect sticks back in 2018 when I bought it.

I decided to upgrade the RAM as i was getting a couple of memory related BSODs and I wanted to double it anyway, so Ibought 2x 16gb vengeance 2666MHz DDR4 SODIMM sticks. I've just installed them, but now my laptop won't turn on.

When I try, the fans spin up for a second, and the keyboard lights and power lights light up for a second too....

When I put my old ram back in everything works as normal.

Is this ram not compatible? Or is this something else?

I've got 3000mhz ram in mine, so in theory 2666mhz should be fine. Where did you get it from?

Got it from Amazon so returns will be fine, but just want to confirm what the issue is before proceeding with anything.

It's quite clearly not compatible RAM. If you install CPU-Z it will tell you exactly what voltages and timings your current RAM uses so that you can ensure you by the right RAM.

Basically, I want to upgrade to the fastest ram that my machine is capable of. I must have falsely remembered that I saw 2666MHz as an option when first buying the laptop. So what would be the best compatible RAM here please? I don't exactly know what I'm looking for.

Which suggests I can use 2666/3000MHz to a max of 64GB. But it doesn't mention what CL number I need to use or anything beyond that. As you can see I'm new to this part of computers, so what exactly am I looking for it to be a compatible DIMM?

It’s likely the voltage that’s incompatible.

The other possibility is that it’s just faulty RAM. RAM is difficult to troubleshoot. Some sticks just aren’t compatible with the motherboard for no particular reason.

The best way to be sure you’re getting compatible RAM is use the crucial online scanner or get the same specs as the previous DIMMS you had, just increased speeds.

Yes. If you look on CPU-Z it will tell you the part number, just look that up.
