Help on gaming build

Hi Guys,

Looking to get a top spec machine for gaming and streaming and have come up with the build below, not sure on certain things such as the best motherboard to use here but any advice is appreciated. I currently have a SAMSUNG C27F396 Full HD 27", Full HD 1920 x 1080, 60Hz monitor but willing to look into a new monitor if need be.

What sort of budget are you looking to spend on both the PC and the monitor? I would suggest high end 1440p is where you should be aiming, given your spend at the moment, but unfortunately 1440p 144hz monitors are getting hard to come by due to people snapping them up for quarantine gaming.

Well the build above comes to about £2000 which is the max I would want to spend on the desktop alone, but I guess maybe like £200-300 for the monitor if possible.

Less than £2k is easily do-able. For the monitor you seriously want to up that budget though. That all being said, you can easily have the whole build inside your total budget (£2.3k max).

Let me put together a high end 1440p build for you and work out what you've got left for a monitor.

If you start looking now for 1440p 144hz with G-Sync or Adaptive Sync, this is what you want to buy. Expect around £500 though, rather than £300.

The alternative is to consider an Ultrawide 1440p 144hz monitor. This is my personal favourite and where I would LOVE to game. You need a more powerful GPU though, which may be possible.

High end 1440p...... if you wanted to go Ultrawide the ONLY change you need to make is the 2080 Super. The rest of the system fully supports high end gaming/streaming. If you don't want the streaming element, drop the CPU to the 3600X and that should make room for funds either to save or put towards the 2080 Super.

just a quick query, would you say the i9 is overkill, or is it just better value for money with the AMD Ryzen for gaming performance?

The i9 is completely redundant (a chip I have). It's at the end of its life and it has well documented security vulnerabilities with hyperthreading on. The AMD system has a future upgrade path where the next gen will slot right into this board so you can upgrade in a year or 2 if you wanted to. With an Intel build, it's a main system replacement unfortunately (Motherboard, CPU and likely RAM).

Performance wise, there would be no discernible difference for you at all. You would never know which system you were gaming on and it opens the door to sooooooo much more scope and budget.
