Help Please - Oculus VR with iRacing

Need to retire my old PC in order to use Oculus Quest 2 VR with my iRacing Rig.

Monitor is Oculus Quest 2 VR running at a maximum resolution of around 1832 X 1920 (per eye so I've been told?) with a refresh rate of 80 or 90Hz. In game with medium settings I hope to hit a max of around 90 FPS with around 20 cars and a bit of a lower resolution at 80Hz will be OK.

With a budget of £1800 I'm hoping the following Spec will be good enough - I don't want or need ARGB etc and machine will be used exclusively for iRacing via Oculus Link - nothing else allowed!

Can you please advise on the following Spec - I'm happy to lower the Quest resolution and my expectations around FPS but can't really go above £1800.

I'm holding off giving advice simply because my level of knowledge with VR is outdated now, I'm just going to reach out to @Scott as he does VR with Racing SIMs

There may be a case for the 5800x3D

Thanks Spyder - I'll hold out for @Scott - in the meantime I've had another look around this forum and found an old post with a suggestion from Scott that suggests an 3080 as the OP had £2500 to spend but my budget won't stretch to nearly that also I'm unsure of the Oculus Quest 2 resolution - All Help Welcome

3070 will power the Quest 2 very nicely. The main bones of the build you've suggested looks pretty good but I would definitely consider the 5800X3D for simulation. It does very well with the way the cache is managed.

I would probably consider 32GB of RAM as well.

The Strix X570 would be my suggestion, great board, if that takes you over budget, reduce to the TUF

Can't seem to find the Strix X570 in the drop down configuration menu - only the Strix B550 which I believe to be slower (older?) Happy to pay a bit more for better board - should I wait for more stock?

Thanks

You're right, looks like they must have sold out. The TUF is still gold.

Thanks Spyder - have been looking around whilst waiting (as I said before Ryzen CPU's are new to me) and have discovered the following news item "AMD Rumored Readying Ryzen 7000X3D 3D V-Cache CPUs In 16, 12 And 8 Core Flavors" maybe worth the wait for a better Strix board with one of the new 7000X3D -

You're going to be into Q1 next year before they're announced properly. If you can wait till then I think it'll be worthwhile. You'll need to increase the budget significantly though.

That's right, should be officially announced at CES at the end of January I believe for release shortly aftertheyre bound to be pretty special, if you can hold off it's probably worth it, although board costs remain high and you'll need DDR5 likely

Thank you both for all your guidance - I've always bought ready made PC's before and liked the look of PCS website and this forum in particular for support (couldn't of done it on my own) - Re your excellent suggestion for Ryzen X3D V-Cache for VR racing it was all news to me - a great suggestion - it's a no brainer - thanks.

Now comes my next dilema can I afford the basic 8 core 7000X3D - probably after Christmas - just about, yes - but if it's essential to step up to DDR5 in conjunction with a more expensive board - my wife will definitely say NO!

So once again thanks for all your help and I'll need to sleep on it for a good few days

If you can hold off until end of january when they announce it, I would expect board prices and possibly even DDR5 to reduce a bit by then

But either way, it may well reduce the price of the 5800x3D

Yep - it's my fall back position I can probably get the 5800X3D at a reduced price - but please I do "need" the newer 7000X3D 3D V-Cache

Have a good Christmas

Ah! We all need the newer 7000X3D, especially with Xmas just round the corner 😂

Or our own equivalent to a 7000X3D 😜
