If you wait until the 27th, there's a whole new generation of loads of components including CPU's, motherboards, new PSU architecture, new SSD's, and most of them aren't compatible with current gen stuff.

They will vastly improve performance at the same budget.

Is this a PC for Gaming? at a guess with Cyberpunk 2077 / New Worlds, What monitor are you using - make and model? You say it's a 4K (2160p) but is a 60hz, 144hz?,

Just on the outlook of your build, I'd think this build should be much better and comes in just under your 3K budget, I'm no expert but I'm a gamer and this is what i'd roughly go for, for a build...

Case
FRACTAL DEFINE 7 BLACK QUIET MID-TOWER CASE
Processor (CPU)
AMD Ryzen 7 7700X Eight Core CPU (4.5GHz-5.4GHz/40MB CACHE/AM5)
Motherboard
ASUS® ROG STRIX X670E-E GAMING WIFI (WIFI 6E, DDR5, PCIe 5.0) - ARGB Ready!
Memory (RAM)
32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 6000MHz (2 x 16GB)
Graphics Card
10GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080 - HDMI, DP, LHR - I don't feel the 3090Ti is justified if this is just a gaming PC and the 3090/90Ti is not really a gaming card.
1st M.2 SSD Drive
500GB SEAGATE FIRECUDA 530 GEN 4 PCIe NVMe (up to 7000MB/R, 3000MB/W) - A drive just for the OS.
1st M.2 SSD Drive
1TB SEAGATE FIRECUDA 530 GEN 4 PCIe NVMe (up to 7300MB/R, 6000MB/W) - This drive for Games, I'd up it to a 2TB but it shows it's out of stock, I personally would go for a 4TB drive as game files are getting bigger.
Power Supply
CORSAIR 1000W RMe SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS GOLD, ULTRA QUIET
Power Cable
1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead, 1.0mm Core)
Processor Cooling
Corsair iCUE H115i ELITE CAPELLIX RGB Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler
Thermal Paste
STANDARD THERMAL PASTE FOR SUFFICIENT COOLING
Sound Card

Hi monitor is:

Acer Nitro XV273KPbmiipphzx 27 inch UHD 4K Gaming Monitor, (IPS Panel, FreeSync, 120Hz (144Hz OC), 1ms, DisplayHDR 400, Quantum Dot, DP, HDMI, USB 3.0 Hub, Speakers) Black - being driven off a NVidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti.

Primarily for gaming. I cannot find anywhere if Cyberpunk and New World benefit from the new AMD processor?

Thank-you for your thoughts

(I got my monitor size wrong in original post)

So I went away and waited for the 4080 to appear.

I mostly play New World, with a small side order of Cyberpunk 2077

Is your use solely gaming? If so, you could save a bit instantly by going for the 5800X3D which is still the top AMD gaming CPU (yes, still better than the new AM5 CPUs).

Has the budget gone up to £3300 from the original £3000, or are you looking at ways to optimise the build price?

Do you need wifi, as the build you've linked to does not have wifi on the motherboard nor as an add-in card?

Unless you have other storage/SSDs that we don't know about, then it's not recommended to have a single, large SSD, as it promotes poor housekeeping behaviour (i.e. everything on one drive risks losing everything) - we normally recommend a 512GB very fast m.2 SSD for the OS/apps, and a larger-but-slower m.2 SSD to install your games to (if the OS drive crashes, or needs a rebuild, you don't have to reinstall/download all your games again)...and not forgetting a cheap spinning HDD for backups and/or 'slow' documents/files.

Tony, yes mostly for gaming - some very light Excel / Word but the majority of time playing the MMO New World. I has read / possibly mis-read that the 5800X3D only gives benefits in certain games and I could not find New World on the listings. Also, from reading the New World forums the game is processor heavy - hence my uneducated choices. If you are other are saying it will give more performance for a better budget then yes please.

Budget wise I could eek out another £300 but it would be better for my standing with the wife if it was closer to 3k!

I do not need wifi - will be plugged into our home broadband

512GB SSD will this be big enough for windows 11 with some room for it to bloat? 30, maybe 35 years ago I had a bad experience fitting upgraded system files onto our schools server... Should I get a 1GB faster SSD and and 2 2 GB SDD slightly slower for games? Do I have space for a 3rd spinning one - this may be nice as my wife is precious of her terabytes of pictures.

Based on my answers to your questions above, what build would you go for?

I don't play New Worlds, but a bit of research shows it's poorly coded/optimised and does indeed tax the CPU a bit more than other games...however, the only details I could see on their forums was that a 6-core/12-thread or more CPU would cover most cases...even all the way back to a AMD 2600X processor...so the 5800X3D or the 5950X would not fix the poor coding anyway.

Most other games will rely on the GPU far more than the CPU, so depending on your balance of gaming, then it may be that the 2-3% increase in New Worlds outweighs the benefits in all the other games.

Anyway...if we take my suggestions, and your storage wishes into account, I can see 2 options - either of which I'd be happy with (and if you want to save some cash...£400 on a case is good place to start ;))

FYI, I've got the same 1TB m2 drive as my OS/Apps, and even with the full MS Office suite, Adobe Creative suite, 7 or 8 game storefronts and a bundle of benchmarking tools, I am still using less than 1/3rd of the space...but then I've also got 4 x 2TB Crucial P2/P3 SSDs for game installations.

The only thing I'm not sure about (as 'm not an expert on cases), but I think that's a case built for low noise, rather than good cooling...hopefully one of the other experts can help on alternates (assuming you're still after an XL/full-size case).

I think their 'Meshify' models are their models with good airflow...but I can't see the Meshify XL in the configurator.

Any input on the case @AgentCooper @SpyderTracks ?

Yes, you're absolutely spot on, that case is reduced airflow for the sake of less noise, it's more designed for Music oriented systems without GPU's to minimise the system noise in a studio where it may leak into microphones.

Something like the Level 20 or Hyte Y60, or 680X imho

OK I need more help:

£164 680X "The graphics card you have selected has a length of approximately 35cm and the case you have selected can only support graphics cards up to 28cm in length when configured with the Corsair iCUE H150i ELITE CAPELLIX RGB Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler. Please select a different Cooler or alternatively choose a different case."

£175 HYTE Y60 "The graphics card you have selected has a length of approximately 35cm and the case you have selected can only support graphics cards up to 32cm in length when configured with the Corsair iCUE H150i ELITE CAPELLIX RGB Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler. Please select a different Cooler or alternatively choose a different case."

So £183 level 20 is the choice - snag being due to its width it won't fit under the desk I'm using.

Can you recommend something of similar dimensions to the Fractal or other solution please?

This is madness, there's barely any appropriate cases to accomodate the 35cm length.

I'm not certain that's accurate though, I think there may be a bug in the configurator there.

I would personally give PCS a call on Monday and go through options with them. If it really is the case that none of those cases will accommodate the GPU with an AIO of required size, then I would suggest buying an O11 Dynamics XL case from elsewhere (comes in black or silver), and sending it into PCS to build in, once you select "Send in your own case" in the configurator, it gives you all the details you need to get that arranged. But this takes cards up to 40cm length, so masses of room, and it's an amazing case all round.

It may sound like a lot of extra work, but it really isn't, all you do is order it and put PCS as the delivery address with your PCS order number in the send to title, job done.

It wonder if the configurator is assuming the AIO is mounted on the front…as I‘ve seen similar warnings when duplicating my original config of iCUE 220T and the RTX3070.

For the Corsair 680X, Corsair says it supports up to 330mm long GPU.

My thoughts exactly, I think there's a mis configuration in the configurator details somewhere.

So I was dotting my i's prior to calling - and the :

Corsair iCUE H150i ELITE CAPELLIX RGB Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler is now out of stock

I also have a question about the case (it does look splendid): https://www.overclockers.co.uk/lian...ied-aluminium-full-tower-black-ca-77k-ll.html

Will the PSU definitely fit (asking as trying some other cases - the graphics card fit, but not the PSU? (Power Supply CORSAIR 1000W RMx SERIES™ - MODULAR 80 PLUS GOLD, ULTRA QUIET)

Can you recommend another cooler or should I wait for stock please? @SpyderTracks / @TonyCarter

It is annoying as I cannot save a build and accept the later delivery for the cooler

(Please note that the following products are not currently in stock and will delay your order. Please select an alternative product:

Corsair iCUE H150i ELITE CAPELLIX RGB Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler (ETA: 20-12-2022))

PS are the gaming gods telling me to wait for the next Radeon / other offerings..;-p

Any ATX PSU should fit any ATX case...that's why they use these standard naming conventions...can you take a screenshot of the PSU-sizing error you're seeing?

However, you should be able to save (or order) your config with a 115i Elite and then call up to change the components before it gets to the build stage - the call would also be used to tell them your preference to have the AIO radiator top-mounted.

Tony, I was trying cases in the list at random when I got that error message - for example the £124

COOLERMASTER MASTERBOX MB540 ARGB GAMING CASE

Gives the following: "Unfortunately due to space limitations, the power supply you have selected does not fit in the case you have selected. Please select an alternative case or if possible a lower wattage power supply."

I won't pick a case without asking advice - hence my PSU question and subsequent cooler annoyance - going to have a think I wonder if I could send a case and a cooler from a third party
