Help with a choosing Laptop

Hello,

Been searching around for a new laptop and not getting anywhere fast, and came across PC Specialist by mistake. I've come around to thinking that maybe a custom system would be the best option but I'm not sure of what configuration would be best for me, so hoping to get some help.

I use my laptop for a few main reasons - Playing/Editing/Recording music, mostly guitar and with Line 6 or Native Instruments software
- Editing photographs, using Nikon or Adobe software
- Playing Football Manager game series, very few other games, maybe other similar managment sims

This is all hobby level, I am not a great musican or photographer :LOL: My upper limit budget wise would be around £1500.

I'm not sure what other info might be helpful so please tell me if I can provide more.

@BlueWalker Do any of the laptops PCS sell peak your interest at all? A good way to think about it is to consider do you want a larger screen which comes with the downside of the entire laptop is juts physically larger or a smaller screen and potentially smaller/lighter laptop?

Even if you could pick the 'style' of laptop you like from the PCS lineup it would be a great help to us otherwise we're trying to divine your aesthetic preferences which obviously could be challenging! :)

I'd be happy with a 15.6" or 17" screen, just not the 14" as I feel it would be too small. Had a look through the laptops and picked out a few I like the look of - 15.6 Fusion Pro IV, 15.6 Vyper III and both the 15.6 and 17.3 Defiance VII.

The laptop doesn't need to be easily portable. Its 95% of the time going to be stationary and on the mains power, so battery life is not a big issue at all. Its more of a space issue getting a laptop rather than desktop.

Thanks @Nursemorph. Really liking the look of this. Was wondering if there would be much different between the CPU being the Ryzen 7 as you've choosen here, or the Ryzen 9 3900 12 core? Think its only about £40 to upgrade?

Completely agree with @Nursemorph 's build. I would just state that the 3700x might be better for games that require higher clock speeds rather than a higher number of cores, so it is a mixed bag here. You will also have fewer problems with heat on the 3700x, due to having fewer cores.

But for productivity (like photo editing), the 3900 will definitely be better. I use DxO Photolab to edit photos on my R3 3100 and can convert a single RAW to JPG with higher possible quality (+ denoising and demosaicing) in around 10 seconds, imagine a R9 3900 :ROFLMAO: . My old laptop (4 years-old i5) used to take a bit less than 40 seconds, just for comparison :rolleyes:.

I also play FM20 and it runs really well on my laptop. I can even use quiet mode on control centre (lowers CPU clock and voltage) and it still runs at max FPS :ROFLMAO:
