a lot depends on budget and how you manage your data.

all my games are either from Steam or Epic or Wargaming, this tends to mean I don’t down load unless I play them regularly.

At most I tend to have 5-6 games downloaded at anyone time.

Currently playing Assassins Creed Odyssey, once completed I will uninstall and it’s back in cloud.


personally I would look at a 1 TB Samsung 970, unless you have the budget then it’s 2 TB Firecuda.

Also check out Amazon for prices, these were on offer recently.

it’s a bit of personal choice but I went with modular power supply rather than semi, just means swapping out is simpler.

For the monitors, you’ll want something superwide like the Samsung G9 or alternatively a 4K 144Hz screen. These monitors aren’t cheap, you’re looking at around a grand spent. If you’ve no doubt intention of that outlay, you can safely lower the GPU and save some cash.

As for the M.2 drives, I’ve got two of the Samsung 970s, a 500GB for OS and programs, and 1TB for games. It’s a luxury pairing, the PCS variants would do a great job for a lower price. Just don’t go for the Intel ones, they have a lower amount of maximum writes on them.

Few other suggestions from me... change the PSU from the TXm to an RMx variant, ideally the 850w as that’ll give you a bit of headroom on the power front.

Up the cooler to either the Corsair H100i RGB Platinum or H115i RGB Platinum, the Frostflow one is a bit budget and will have to work very hard on that system, decreasing it’s lifespan.

I’d also add the better WiFi card that gives you higher speeds and Bluetooth for an extra tenner.

Lastly, drop the BullGuard AV, Windows Defender is cracking these days and the BullGuard is known to cause issues.

GPU-wise, if you wanted something until the 3070 was more readily available (assuming of course there are supply issues like with the 3080), then the 1660 Super would do a good job at 1080p ...anything more wouldn't be prudent for a short term stopgap.

As to the 5800x, difficult one really as no clue how supplies will be handled. The CPU is less important than the GPU for gaming....but a CPU is more complicated to replace. I honestly don't know as I don't know enough about the new CPUs.

If you choose to go with the 5800x, as it releases a week after the 3070, you will have ideas on stocks etc. There are also the new AMD GPUs coming which may, or not, be comparable but not sure when they release.

Sorry, half of that was no help whatsoever...my knowledge on the new chips is somewhat limited. @SpyderTracks How worth it will it be to hold off for a 5800x CPU for gaming? WIll it make much difference?

As of today, the best spec for your budget is the one I posted....however, as of the 29th it won't be (3070 release date) and, again, same with 5th November (5800x release date).

I would say that, even if you ordered tomorrow, your machine would unlikely be built before the 3070 is released...5800x is a different matter. You could always order the spec I posted and then amend your order to the 3070 on the 29th if it hasn't already been built.

Personally, if I was in your position I'd want the 3070 given the improvements it makes...if you changed your order to the 3070 when it was allowed, it would still be almost 2 months till Christmas...I can't imagien it taking that long

Yeah think I will do that then, will the 3070 still run well with the 3800xt CPU?

It'll work fine with the monitor. As long as you only generally play AAA games you will be fine with the much lower CPU...if you play CPU intensive games (flight sims, strategy games) or plan VR, then you would benefit from the higher level CPU.

Yeah think I’ll just wait until next year to get the 3070. I should really get the 3800xt CPU then?
