The only suggestion I’d have are:

1. Remove the Norton trial as W11’s built-in offering is better and doesn’t cause stability issues
2. Upgrade to the Corsair AF120 fans & controller kit as they’re much better fans
3. Consider upgrading to the Silver warranty for £5 to give you a full year of collect & return

It’s a pity that there’s no non-OC 7700XT GPU, as it would be probably be about 10% cheaper for almost identical performance.

I agree with the choice of AMD CPU over Intel, it's a no brainer. I'm not sure of the 7700XT as a GPU though. The NVIDIA 4070 seems a better choice. Less power (only needs an 8 pin connector) and it's recently had a price drop.

Unless you have a crystal ball, there's no way to tell what your needs will be in 2-3 years time.

So all we can do is give you a platform that will support a CPU or GPU upgrade at some time in the future if you decide you want to try video-editing or rendering or 4k gaming.

However, for 1080p gaming and general home use, it will probably be fine for 5 years.

In 2 or 3 years time no matter which GPU you purchase it will be obsolete. I would save the money now and if you feel you want/need more down the line then a simple GPU upgrade will be all that's required.

The best thing about this is that if your Grandson decides he wants to play a higher resolution, the GPU can be purchased to match.

Although i consider myself a technophobe i AM able to change out a GPU, PSU or RAM stick so if in a cpl years time a new
GPU is required is the rest of this build ready to take an upgraded card (not a massive upgrade just a step up to 7700x or 7800x for example) or would I need to look at a new PSU and/or MoBo as well?

The 750w PSU should cover you for whatever the equivalent of a 7800X is in 2-3 years time (8800X/9900X/etc.) and your current AMD CPU (which is much more efficient than an Intel equivalent)...but we don't know what their power requirements will be (AMD GPUs are currently are less efficient than Nvidia).

That's why we suggest a higher tier PSU where the budget allows.

You will NOT require a new motherboard unless/until you want to change CPU...AND the CPU you want is on a different platform. But with the CPU/MB you've got, there's the option of going up to more cores on the same generation, or swapping to a newer generation or two before AMD abandons this current platform.

Where are you at with the build? Have you followed on the advice above or have you stuck with your previous selections?

The PSU is definitely something I would opt for. I typically recommend 1000w for any new system where the budget allows, regardless of current use.

If you bump up the PSU to the 1000w offering, increase the cooler to the 620 and remove the case fans I think you would be good to go.

It's a very efficient CPU that doesn't need a lot of cooling but the 620 is a better performer and will be quieter. The 1000w PSU you don't even remotely need right now but it would mean any GPU on the shelf could be fitted without any fears at all.

The case fans aren't required. I would say it's a waste of £50 really. They won't do any harm though so if you wanted to spend the extra then the option is there.

Okay. Tnx for all the help. Whilst a 1000w PSU seems overkill to me I appreciate that it will allow me to upgrade later and it keeps me under £1500 so i'll accept your judgement on that and the cooler. Am gonna keep the fans though as i'm convinced a few extra fans running will allow me to keep the speeds down and keeping it nice & quiet.

They certainly won't do any harm, just might add a bit of noise. If you do end up going for a more meaty GPU down the line they will likely aid with the airflow so won't go wrong then.

The build as you have configured it is good for the next 10 years other than a GPU upgrade.
