No I've got my PS3 for that. Basic it is. Cheers.
I'm surprised they'd let you buy a PC without anywhere for a disk, without mentioning, like with the graphics card, "None, I have one already"

Well, some people probably don't need them, either cos they have one they are going to use already or possibly for people/businesses who use a network drive or USB drives for anything that needs to be installed.
But yeah, possibly them changing the text to something like the graphics card drop down one may be useful - though it is selected in all the configurators by default, so you have to specifically change it to None to not get one.

I was just trying to make excuses for one of the dumbest questions ever asked by anyone, ever! But there is no excuse. Just waiting for the ground to swallow me up now...

Haha, cheers. Final question, I think. Windows 7 or 8? I've been told that 7 is better for gaming PCs as it takes up less on the processor.

Can't say I've heard of a processor problem.People seem to either love windows 8 or hate it,I'm going to stick with windows 7 for a while yet,but it's really down to your own personal choice.

My preference though I lack the experience would be 7.

8, while faster slightly for booting up and whatnot was designed with touch screens in mind. It takes longer to get to specific destinations I hear, so can become frustrating with what would previously have been a few simple clicks, assuming you knew what you were looking for and if you knew where to look.

I hear the idea for 8 derived from the rise in tablet customers, they thought that they'd replicate the tablets experience onto laptops, computers and AIO's. But what they seem to fail in seeing is that people bought tablets more because they are convenient if you need something small to use the Internet and other things when out of your own home, paired with the helpful hotspots of wifi usage. Since you can't bring a desktop out with you it's not all that practical an idea.

But I do understand that the new touchscreen laptops do benefit from this OS.

I cant conform nor deny this but the difference in win7/8 wont make a massive difference in a gaming PC unless the PC itself is fairly marginal (in terms of specs). Most gaming PC's are much more powerful than games these days require and therefore you probably wont notice!

For such a high end rig,I would upgrade to a better case, and possibly downgrade the ram to 1600MHz. .

Really, how come? There is only £5 difference between 1600mhz and 2400mhz. And is the case going to make that much of a difference? If I can get one that expells heat better and is quieter, great. I'll need to be shown the way though??

The two graphics cards are going to produce a fair bit of heat, so any bigger case is going to improve airflow a long way. If you have the space I'd recommend going for a full-tower.

The difference in ram speeds is not going to be noticeable unless you are over clocking, saying that, if you have the £5 to spend then its up to you :)

The higher ram speed won't make any difference in performance really, unless overclocking as steaky mentioned.I suggested a better case mainly for cooling, especially as you have two 670's,but it will depend on other factors of course, like size (if you have space for the case)if you like the look of a particular one,and price of course.I'm not sure on the noise levels of cases though.

I'll chip in at the end of this debate :)

1) That's a great gaming spec you now have, with the money being spent just where it counts.

2) I second the suggestion to upgrade the case. My understanding is that the Maelstrom is a pretty good case but your PC is probably worthy of something better. A really good case will improve cooling because you have more clear space around the components and better airflow. You'll also get a case that is absolutely solidly built, quite unlike the case you get with any random consumer desktop PC. As to what to get, I'm very happy with the CM Storm Trooper that I have. However, it's a huge slab of matte-black and might not be your thing. I'd take a look at the options and pick one you like. But I do think that if you spend another £50 on the case you'll end up thinking it was money well spent.

So strange you said that as I decided to go with the CM STORM TROOPER last night:

I am also considering getting the 'Razer DeathStalker Ultimate Elite Gaming Keyboard' and the 'Razer Deathadder Black Edition Gaming Mouse'. I am yet to decide on a monitor. Any advice is appreciated.

Please let me know what you guys have for mouse, keyboard and monitor, and what you think of them?

Cheers guys, appreciate it. :)

On the keyboard, if you are spending that much I would look into mechanical keyboards (where each key actuates its own switch). They give a better feel (imo) and allow you to choose the switch-type that gives the key-action you prefer. Eg, keyboards made with Cherry MX Blue switches have a clicky feel (and noise) and are favoured by many for typing. Cherry MX Reds are the opposite - light touch and no nudge as you hit the actuation point. They seem to be popular with FPS gamers as they make spamming a key very fast. Then there is the MX Brown switch, that I use, that is effectively a compromise between Blue and Red.

I personally use a Filco keyboard (not a brand sold by PCS) which is the opposite of the Deathstalker in that it is minimalist in design and has no special keys or features. It's just a great keyboard. There are mechanical keyboards to suit all tastes, however, including some made by Razer (iirc).

At all events, I would check it out. There's a whole subculture of keyboard weirdoes waiting for you ;)

On mice, I have a Razer Naga and quite like it. I could recommend Razor mice, I think.

On screens, the first question is what kind of size and how many.

I'm looking at about a 27" and only the one.

I would go as low as 23" though.

Good choice on the case! I purchased the storm trooper as well, you'll be suprised how large it is when you unbox it.

In terms of monitor size I think 24" is the current go-to screen size.

Anything larger and from what i've read you want to be going for something like a 27" screen upwards as the resolution is a bit off apparently with anything in-betweeen. Although I could be wrong.
