Hi all,

I'm looking to build instead of buying a pc straight off pcworld etc, I get the feeling I would get more for my money here. So here's the plan

Budget 600 - 650 - It's slightly under so I'm happy at moment but not sure how future proof it will be.

Plan - So it's basically set for the wife to do her website, excel database (32k products) and if I can push my luck to do some photo editing and play Minecraft with the daughter and some podcasts. I think I'm ready to hit send but not sure, I keep going back to it and editing little bits, so would this be ok for a few years and add 32gb if we need.

My concerns - Power Supply and cooling.

With a small budget like yours id aim to squeeze out every last drop of it and maybe a little extra if you can manage.

Most if not everyone here (including me) are going to tell you to consider an AMD build instead and for good reason, AMD's "Ryzen" line of cpu's are way ahead of intel at the moment, especially for productivity and future proofing.

Here's one to look at based on your max budget. the experts will chip in with some better suggestions

Interesting, I did look at AMD originally but I must admit I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to them, but your right, I do see people are using them more and recommending them. Definitely food for thought on your advice, appreciated.

Yeah, given your uses, 256 should be ok for the OS drive, suggest a PCS M2 drive to keep the cost down.

You can always upgrade it at a later time to something larger, it's very easy to swap out. It's more important you get the platform right so that it can handle upgrades into the future.
