I just bought a custom PC that's currently being built. While discussing the build with my cousin, he asked about the number of fans I'd have. I said "6: 3 on the CPU cooler and 3 extra fans." He responded with "9 then." Confused, I asked where he got the extra three fans from, and he pointed out that "the computer case comes with 3."

Is my cousin right? Will my system have a total of 9 fans?

For completeness, the 5000X has 10 fan slots available; if you want all slots occupied for aesthetic reasons, better the kit with 4 extra fans rather than 3.

But be aware, too many fans will actually REDUCE airflow, not increase it. It creates dead spots where the air hits a brick wall and can't circulate

What's the maximum budget?

I'd strongly suggest to cancel the order and go with AMD. Intel is not worth, especially 13th and 14th gen.

PS. The 4070 is not able to handle the 4K resolution of that monitor.

Don’t order that, Intel cpus are broken and melting at a silicon level as well as being poor performers and expensive, it's been headline news since the start of the year, they just don't work and eventually just BSOD all the time until you can't even get into windows. The only solution is to replace the processor but then the same thing will eventually happen.

I don't think that's the correct config link either, as there's no price and the link shows a 750W CX model PSU.

• You've reduced the RAM speed (could see a 10% performance reduction in RAM-speed critical tasks there)
• You've changed the CPU to a media creation / productivity model, not a gaming model
• You've gone too low on the PSU (you've not got enough power, and it's the older ATX2.4 spec model)
• You've added Norton bloatware
• You've put a larger, slower SSD as your only drive (bad for speed, and security)
• It's £1300 more than your max budget

I don’t mind going over budget as I’m getting peripherals and speeding up the production process. I’m fortunate to have a job where I choose when I can work that is a guaranteed extra source of income.

I actually saw you post to a guy buying his son his first pc and I loved the way you engaged with him. You obviously know your stuff.

I value your opinion and would appreciate if you could make the necessary recommendations.

I don’t mind going over budget as I’m getting peripherals and speeding up the production process. I’m fortunate to have a job where I choose when I can work that is a guaranteed extra source of income.

As for the Norton, I didn’t select that. I did notice that every time I changed edit order that the price changed and it kept on changing things such as the power supply back to 650w.

We're all volunteers here, and my advice is no better/worse than most of the other volunteers on here. We may just have slightly different opinions based on specific scenarios/areas of expertise, and some are experts in specific areas (audio, rendering, troubleshooting, etc.) but that's about it.

I strongly disagree, but the money is yours.
You'd probably lose about 30-40% of your gaming performance with a 9700X.

I’ve added peripherals and it took me to £3,400 ish.

I don't understand: what peripherals? You said you already have mouse, keyboard and monitor...
