I don't want to lose all of my documents saved to my account and also I think I have a game installed on there
Documents is data, that shouldn't be on the c drive, that should always be on the D drive, you just copy them across

Any data will be in your libraries, none of those are in program files. You don't need to copy anything from program files.

Your games as well shouldn't be on the C drive, you can move those across to your D drive, depends which game platform they're install through as how to do that. There are guides for this online, just google.

But this is literally basic windows stuff, if you don't know how to do this, you're never going to be able to manage a PC, you need to go on a course to learn the basics.

But I'll give up here, we won't be able to guide you if you're unsure of this stuff, you'll need to learn about basic windows management.

I managed to get my storage down by uninstalling the games so its only 50% full now. Do you have any recommendations for a starter course like you mentioned?

Plenty out there, I haven’t done one, I started using computers very young and did computer lessons at prep school. But any reputable university or college will have an IT literacy course.

I did do a touch typing course at Pitmans but I don’t know if they’re even still going. College or uni would be better

There are a few things that haven't been looked at so far, so if you're still game to try and fix this I'm happy to try and help.
  1. Please open the Run command box and enter the command ncpa.cpl. The Network Adapters Control Panel dialog will open.
  2. Right-click on the icon for your Wireless Adapter (the WIRELESS 802.11N 300Mbps/2.4GHz PCI-E CARD) and select Properties from the drop-down menu. The WiFi Properties dialog will open.
  3. Under the 'This connection uses the following items' are a number of checkboxes, some will be checked and some won't.
  4. Make a note on some paper of which checkboxes are checked - so you can put things back the way they are later.
  5. Uncheck every box EXCEPT for the 'Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)' checkbox - leave that one checked (and only that one).
  6. Click OK, then close all open Windows and reboot (to ensure none of the unchecked drivers are loaded).
  7. Now try using the Google search engine again. Is there any improvement?
Let me know how that goes and depending on the result we'll move on to some other tests.

I really appreciate you sticking with this, thanks.

There was an instantly noticeable difference. I can actually visit all of the websites now and YouTube videos load. I did a speed test too and saw a massive jump. I'm not entirely convinced yet as it usually goes bad again but this is amazing thank you.

Your C drive was completely full, windows and any apps when running are constantly writing files to the C drive.

If the drive is full, they can't write the files they need to so performance grinds to a half. You uninstalled games from the C drive which freed up space so the OS could work again.

The only reason it would deteriorate again is if you keep saving stuff on the C drive.

Just be sure to move your games libraries to the D drive, and move your libraries there as well for any data.

Will do thanks, I've uninstalled all games and changed all of my settings on the game launchers to download into my D drive from now on.

What @SpyderTracks is telling you is accurate and important (of course), but that you noticed an improvement with only the IPv4 driver active indicates that your problem is most likely to be a network driver that's misbehaving. I was alerted to this possibility when I saw that you have WinPcap installed.

WinPcap is a network packet capture tool, it's used to capture data packets as they traverse your network adapter and send them to specific application(s). It's often install by network analysers (packet sniffers) but it's also used by other network management apps. I didn't see in that list of installed apps any app that I recognise as using WinPcap, so I'm wondering why it's there? Do you know? It's not impossible that it's been installed by malware to capture all your data packets (it's been known).

What I'd like you to do now is send me a screenshot of that WiFi Properties dialog. I want to see ALL of the checkboxes you have listed there, based on that I'll advise which ones you should have enabled and which ones you don't need. You may need to post more than one screenshot to show all the checkboxes there.

Excellent spot! Totally missed that!

It doesn't appear in that driver list in any case. If you don't know why WinPcap is there I would uninstall it.

Of those checkboxes here's what you need to enable...
  • Check both Client for Microsoft networks and File & printer sharing. Although these appear to only be needed if you are sharing files and/or printers, some Windows firewall features require these.
  • If you stream audio and/or video you should enable QoS packet scheduler. This prioritises this type of traffic above other traffic types. Otherwise leave this unchecked.
  • You should enable IPv4 (which you have).
  • You should enable IPv6, unless you have a very good reason not to use IPv6.
  • You should leave everything else unchecked. You don't need any of it.
Try that and see how things go.

I didn't notice a change in performance after checking them again and the speeds were relatively the same. I can still use google perfectly too.

Have you uninstalled WinPcap? If not, please do so. I would also suggest running a couple of good antivirus scans on there too.

I suspect that the increase in free space on your C: drive had as much impact as anything else.

I did forget but I have done that now that you have reminded me. I did a full scan too and it said no threats were found.

I didn't realize I was storing so many things in the wrong place on there so I'm glad you pointed that out to me.

I saw an increase in speed since uninstalling it too, I'm not sure if that was just a coincidence or if it improved it too.
