Thanks I though it was a little over the top... I am getitng rid of the old unit.. but keeping the 3 1080P screens and may upgrade to 1440P and really I am trying to future proof as much as possible.. budget is not restrictive but also not unlimited. I am interested in games small amount of CAD some photo / film editing and there may be more of that in the future.. I really want a machine that just deals with it.... QUIETLY and as effortlessly as possible,

That's all fair enough. The rig suggested is MILES over what you need.

Regarding the screens. As previous, are you gaming on the 3 screens at the same time or using the 3 screens for productivity and gaming on one?

The motherboard seems an old choice compared to rest of build.

would be looking at Strix or ideally Hero.

would also populate both M.2’s, one at 500GB for OS and one 1TB for most frequently used Apps and games.

Other storage for photos and other usual computer junk. 4 TB and buy a decent NAS for stuff that’s either backup or very infrequent.

Just normal thermal paste.

Also what applications are needing 64GB?
I have a NAS that works fine.. but is not always on.... for various reasons.. so I need mimimum of 3 GB HD space ( drawings / catalogoues / as built high def photos. Plus revisions. - available - so With 2 x 4 GB.. I have sufficient capacity///

is thre any issue apart from cost to haveing say 2 x 6 GB > ?

I would like to game all three or at least have the option..I dont actually want what I need, I want the best I can get without getting stupid and just picking the most expensive.. I have an opportunity to replace and upgrade so I want to make the most of it as I will not get the opportunity again for at least 5 years. so I am NOT getting 2 x 14GB hd's BUT I am looking at 2 x 4 Gb so I need some guidenace on the GRFX card especially.

What’s the main reason to move from HDD to SSD - speed.

now compare the speed of a Samsung 980 Pro to an SSD...

does that answer your question?
well that was an eye-opener thank you..

Would you have a specification for a "dream machine" without getting really extravagent about it.....?

You may want to take a look at the build suggested to me by @SpyderTracks, it's very similar to yours but slightly lower-end (8TB drive was my original choice, but I then downgraded it to 4TB as that should be more than enough).

After checking GAVRES suggestion on the Samsung 980 Pro to an SSD... I can see why it is good to have as the boot drive.. but your spec has 8 TB data drive ok,, but what is the thinking of having a 256 SSD and the 1 Tb 970 EVO.?

I kow that the site prices are updated all the time but it is VERY annoying having to add in and add out, one by one. drives / cards to guess the cost of them and see the "bang for bucks" makes for a long, tedious and pointless process.

On some reading for some h-res games there were issues at 32GB ram.. ( i know this is REALLY annoying if you are trying to max a machine to a tight budget - but my last "dream build lasted 9 years and is still working away, so roughly a 10 euro per week gives me loads of scope ) I know it is exceptional but I am trying to future proof a little too, and relitively speaking in the overall cost of the move from 32->64 is not a problem, so why not...! :)

The small drive is supposed to serve as a scratch disc for texture work, and the 1TB will be split to two partitions, one for the OS, and one for games and commonly used apps (I'm thinking of a 200GB/800GB split).

We love you Ukraine
Any advice on best method of transferring OS, files and settings from old unit to new unit ?
You can’t transfer the OS at all, you’d have to do a clean install.

To transfer files, just move the data drive into the new build.

So long as you’re on windows 10, there’s a setting so save settings to your Microsoft account so it automatically transfers to the new build.

The spec has changed significantly. You have removed the 3080. I would opt for the 3070 at least given your uses. The 5700 isn't going to do the job unfortunately.

You definitely need the highest cooler on there so be sure to add it, not sure why you've posted without the cooler? Are you adding it yourself?

The Wifi isn't the best. Better to select the AX200 if you need WIFI, or nothing if you don't.

Thank you for the comments

I forgot the cooler - will be going water cooled... even though on my current system I am on my 3rd water cooled system.

on the grfx card I dropped the 3080 because of supply issues.. and I have to chose one that supports my 3 screens _ I dont have budget limit but also dont want to be by buying the most expensive just for the sake of it... but do want at least as good as the 3080

Would you say the the mobo is the best available ?

and on the ram.. woould 64 gb better?

On the PCI drives.. - are they the best choice.?

thanks

I still think the system is really unbalanced for your uses. The 5950X is WAY more than you would ever need. The 5900X would be too much to be honest.

32GB is more than enough RAM.
SSDs are as good as it gets. Perfect for response/speed.

We have an expression in Ireland when looking at power, capacity, load etc and say "I would rather be looking at it than looking for it.." !

So if the excess is not an issue from any point of view I will go for it hence 8TB drives - 2TB is probably enough but the cost difference is marginal, there is no heat / time / space issue so why not.. its there if I need it..same with RAM and also the speed of the processor - the MOBO and grfx card are the only items I have not yet "nailed down"
